I agree that the current generation has lost the lesson of World War Two: that war is never a good option. I personally believe that part of the success of the us post ww2, and part of the really nice culture we had (sans racism etc) is because a huge number of men walking around knew what the end result of violence is. Nowadays, men are very quick to get puffy and to provoke conflicts. They are fools. If someone forced all those belligerent idiots to hide in a fox-hole and watch their buddy’s head explode a few feet away, and all the rest, for months and months, they wouldn’t walk around acting like tough guys.

I have seen the most profound violence imaginable, the worst you might see in a war. It has done nothing else than to make me an adamant pacifist. I can not articulate it correctly — all I can say is that at a certain level, violence does things to your mind that you didn’t know about. It’s just not comparable with human existence.

I was in high school when Facebook came out. I rejected social media and never engaged with it. I’ve never had a Snapchat or a Facebook or an Instagram.

When Facebook came out it just seemed obvious to me that it was a bad idea. It was basically a brutal platform that hugely magnified the ugly, quantitative aspect of socializing. Who’s the most popular? Who’s the smartest and funniest? Friend count and likes and so on basically streamline the process of judging others and self evaluation. It’s brutal and anxiety inducing and it never made any sense. Of course the root of the problem is the people who use it who are viscious and mean. Affluent American teenagers are some of the worst human beings on the planet.

A little overhang would solve that mostly.

I don’t understand. The view would be the same. It would be the same as having as having roofs. Just slightly raised and maybe a different color. No problem with views.

AC can use refrigerants that are not pollutants. Also AC by definition can always be solar powered. This is literally a non-issue.

Here’s a question: why do we not shelter our homes and buildings? It doesn’t make any sense to let the sun bake the house and then continually refrigerate the inside of it. Just string some cloth or literally any material over the house with an air gap. It would cost almost nothing compared the the total cost of the house and it would save tons of money on cooling alone. So why isn’t it done? Well it is, but if your shade structure isn’t organic and green leafed, you get run out of town. Such a shame. We need some kind of artificial tree.
