I think that your position is ideological and not correct. The government provides institutions that lower risk to the rest of the economy and enable more stability and growth.

Is regulatory capture a problem at some agencies? Sure. Are some departments outdated or ineffective? Sure. But it is irresponsible to look at a few cases and claim that the entire government is a problem.

There's a big difference between job stability and personal risk. People who work in startups will sometimes have jobs that stop existing when the company goes under. So what? They move onto the next project, or join a bigcorp, or do consulting. There's a filter between business risk and personal risk.

I think it would be better for user engagement to not automatically show what other users chose, and also to have the next song start streaming automatically if the user chose a color for the previous song. I could see going tvtropes on the site and inadvertently spending a lot of time there if it was easier to maintain my mental flow.

Yes, but these new jobs are often a long-term thing, and the economy must undergo enormous structural changes for them to form. The US underwent enormous economic and societal changes in its move from an agriculture-based economy to a manufacturing-based one.
