You can have manual light switches and home automation. I have exactly that, but given I built a new house with KNX integration. All light switches are physical switches and can on/off and dim the lights. The only difference is, they are not hardwired to the lamps, instead they go to the KNX machine. So if I want I can always decide what switch does what.

I have a singular smart home platform with one exception: my Dreame cleaning robot. Everything else is either integrated into KNX (lights, appliances, pool, window blinds, etc.) or Ubiquiti (cameras and doors).

But again, new building and I made the mission clear: everything has to fit into this system. Was an interesting work for the electrician ;).

The software on Sony Cameras is known for being very bad, but that's not the only brand. All the other brands are definitely better in that regard (but I prefer my Sony because of other aspects). And Blackmagic is in my opinion the best and most modern.

That "waste" of resources was absolutely tiny. Took me just some minutes. And I didn't do it because of DEI, just because I think it's a better name.

I find the comparison about being good for newcomers rather interesting. I would say none of them are easy for beginners. I don't see where C(++) can shine here. For a beginner into systems programming Go would be much easier as example. And if it's about programming in general then there are many, many more languages to choose from that are all easier to learn than C(++) and Rust.

As another commenter said, the part with Intel is the only manufacturer making leading chips, doesn't really makes sense.

Right now Intel is losing a lot, lucky to them Nvidia invested. So far I would only use AMD. In my desktop is an AMD, because it is just the fastest desktop CPU und the threadrippers are absolute multicore beasts for servers.

For me the first chart says everything: It is a feeling. I know so many people or seen them on the internet who say "you can't say anything anymore" and then still continue to write the most horrible stuff on social media without any consequences.

Also the way we talk nowadays, I don't know, I would feel ashamed and it is in my opinion way more aggressive, much more threatening and bullying and insulting. And don't let me start with facebook.

So if you tell me, you are not allowed to say so much anymore, I would say quite the opposite.

I remember especially (still ongoing) discussions about heatpumps and electric cars. How much bullshit was/is out there and proper hate against it.

The people do write so much really harmful stuff and are more than happy to do it. It seems to be the new normal to threaten peoples life and their families ones as well about any topic. Seems no problem with that?

He does not count himself as a cost, ok fine and understandable if you don't wanna earn from this project it is kind of an ok look at cost. But if I see it in this relation, because of Copilot his "team" costs now $41.73 a month more than before.

But the real cost that would be interesting is time value: Does he really spends less time for the same feature?

I agree only partially with you. Yes some problems were ignored for far too long, but these providers sometimes block stuff that is just adult content. And it is an issue, if a small amount of providers have so much power. Visa and Mastercard more or less have the entire market. Both US american as well, so not even an alternative from other countries.

And with Facebook: I mean yes theoretically it is good that the EU is trying to do something, I'm all up for it. But Facebook is in my opinion worse than it ever was and gets more worse every day.

I think what he means is the same issue I have. I also fly a lot in Europe and the only choice I have is Ryanair. I don't have a problem that Ryanair exists, rather having an issue, that they cut out every other carrier. I would be happy to pay a higher price for better service, reliability and the most: more space on the seat. The problem is not Ryanair directly, the problem is the lack of choice.

For me the search results are much better. Even more since sometimes Google is full of AI and ads. And what does Maps and Flight has to do with it? I use Kagi and still Google Maps and Flight.

Then maybe it is just not for you, completely fine :). I used DDG in the past, but didn't see a big improvement (it is better than Google though). Kagi really changed it for me and so I'm a paying user since a year or so.

For me it is a great index, much better than all the alternatives. Especially against Google that is now filled with AI and Ads. Sometimes so bad, you really have to scroll down, to get to the first non-Ad link.

I have a very different experience. For me the algorithm works pretty well. And I use youtube a lot since many years. Also have the paid subscription so no ads anymore (beside sponsor ads of course).

I get a lot of content I want and interested in, but I also have a long list of subscriptions. Sometimes I run into a rabbit hole, where I watch some completely different content and youtube then shows that for me for a while, even after I'm not interested anymore. But that is just for some days and then it stops showing it on my home feed.

So for me it does exactly what I want it to do.

It is still being sold in Europe, but by a pretty small amount (always was). I personally (yes anecdotal evidence) never seen one.

And the discontinuation in US happened also in South America and South East Asia.

This sounds for me a very Obama hate(?) conclusion. If it's really Obamas fault, why does this happen in many other countries as well?

Living in germany and italy in both countries I see the exact same trend.

I myself drive a sedan, a Volvo S60. It is a gorgeous car and I always get compliments for it, but the seller (who is a very big one) only sold one S60 in several years. It is also the least sold car by Volvo, as far as I know.

Do we know that guy is bright? And do we beg for that? I was 25 years old and thought I can do everything. Now I know better and would definitely not trust myself going into such a system. So was I, now I'm over 40 and boy oh boy can I tell you how I would definitely not trust myself at that age going into such critical systems.

For me it is actually a disturbance, especially autocomplete. So yes, I need to remember stuff, but if I cannot or just don't know the codebase, I look it up very quickly and then can learn more from looking at the specific code.

At the start of learning rust I used a bit more help from the IDE, but now not anymore.

For me it is just easier to have a much deeper knowledge instead of "only" have knowledge about the tools. A good example was when I used SVN back in the days, I only used a GUI and always struggled if something does not work out. I had basically no idea, what is really going on. So when Git became the new normal I forced myself to use the command line only and because of that I can always help myself (with Git atleast :D).

Certainly not something for everyone, but it works for me :).

I hired hundreds of people without coding sessions, because although you are right, they also hire a lot of bad people, who are just good at selling themselves. As bigger the company gets, as easier it is to deal with the unnecessary cost of wrong hirings, it's just a number game.

So no, I didn't wait for the world to change for me, I changed it myself ;).

I don't get that, and I'm connecting from the biggest italian provider TIM. I first get a warning from the browser because of the certificate. If I go forward I just get a 404. But maybe it changed in the last hours?
