I'm not a security expert but can't close source applications be vulnerable and exploited too? I feel like using close source as a defense is just giving you a false sense of security.

What if the LLM made you solve a really complex math equation before it gave you the results? Would that make it ok?

I turned-off automatic updates as soon as the new OSs were announced but my sister got a little surprise the other day when she woke up and her iphone had updated to iOS 26. A lot of changes for no reason. I hope that now that the design team is gone things might get bit better.

A few years I started working on a launcher, built from scratch with jetpack compose. It has all the basic functionality, and some very nice details like multi touch support, similar to iOS. Though I never released it since I got burnt out and I stopped using Android. This is making me want to go back to it and finish it.

unfortunately it will not be enough to just choose not to "do big tech" while the rest of society around you degrades. i.e. try going outside into the woods next to an ai datacenter and see if it really doesnt kill you.

This is great news. I just reinstalled orion yesterday. It was stuck crashing at every launch until I manually deleted the application files on macOS. That being said, I really like orion and kagi, but I agree with others that they should open-source orion.

I really hope tinygrad succeeds with their mission of commoditizing the petaflop. We're nearing a future where you own nothing and rent everything, and they are one of few companies pushing back. This combined with the focus on making models efficient through better architecture/training, not just throwing more compute at it, seems like the right direction imo.

The internet is a very different place nowadays. There are private companies using your data for profit and manipulating you. Governments prosecuting you based on what you post and bad actors trying to hack/scam you. Even if you stay anonymous. And yet I think there are plenty of people being public online, just perhaps not as much sharing the kinds of things the author mentions.

Me too. After trying it out I found Cog to be super frustrating to use and the only use case for me ended-up being trying out a new model through the web UI occasionally.
