I loved every word of this article, I went back in time and felt again with my Pentium III 500 Mhz trying to hack everything out, like changing the splash screen of Windows 98 SE while loading just to feel I did it!

These things were the ones that led me to this passion and that today, with LLMs and almost only business applications to develop for the sake of living, feel like the magic is finally fading.

God I miss the old times! (I'm 36 yo but I feel like 70 in this specific moment!)

For me it's a strange experience: I notice it almost only when ready to sleep, by day even if I focus to check if I can hear it I don't. And when I'm hearing it at about bedtime, I start yawning continuously and very "strongly" because after some tries, it disappears. Do someone has an explanation to this?

this is a problem that affects me almost every day, I'm downloading the app hoping it will solve the problem for me too

TIL this, thank you! I'm italian and only knew about the do re mi fa sol la si do :D

From ChatGPT:

The choice between using letter names (C, D, E, etc.) and solfege (do, re, mi, etc.) largely comes down to tradition and purpose: • Historical Convention: In Western music, the letter system has been the standard for centuries. It provides a clear, concise way to notate specific pitches on a staff, which is especially useful for instruments like the piano or guitar. • Clarity in Notation: Letters denote fixed pitches, making it easier to communicate musical ideas in written form. This helps performers quickly identify which keys or notes to play without additional context. • Educational Focus: Solfege is typically used as a tool for vocal training and ear development. It emphasizes the relationship between pitches (intervals) and is often taught using a movable system (where “do” represents the tonic of any given scale) or a fixed system (where “do” is always C). This system helps singers internalize pitch relationships and improve sight-singing. • Different Purposes: Essentially, the letter system is more suited to the precision required in written music scores, while solfege is more about developing a musician’s internal sense of pitch and harmony.

In short, both systems have their place in music, with letters serving as the backbone of Western musical notation and solfege acting as an invaluable educational tool.

I always loved pixelmator and they deserve it. 100% of it! Never greedy, ui and ux top notch and I never missed Photoshop once. I’m of course a little scared of its future but I hope Apple will just integrate it inside the new OS updates. Thank you Pixelmator team!!

I tried asking him something really new and specific, like the best talent builds (that are user created) for the latest patch of World of Warcraft without specifying which version it was, and answer was really really accurate. No hallucination at all!

The amazing thing about the internet is that it’s always just a matter of time before something negative gets completely reversed by someone. For every “best, coolest thing ever,” there will inevitably be an article arguing that it was all hype and actually the opposite.

And the same thing happens with a bad product / action eventually, there’s always an article attempting to redeem it.

Why is that? Is it just human nature driving our need to be heard and seen as visionaries?

I’ve an issue similar to yours, playing with my jaws especially yawning seems to increase the whistle while I’m doing it, then it come back to normal. I can hear it almost onyl at night and only in the right ear. Sometimes when I yawn a lot I can dismiss it totally (at least for that night) What the hell is this? I also did a hearing test and I’ve no problem.

How is the durability / needed maintenance on new pinballs from Stern?

I'm in love with pinball since when I stopped worrying about losing the ball, as you also told in the article, but because of their price, I'm a little scared without knowing that much :(

Thank you, because you just took me on the Planet Earth: I’m using a 14 Pro and I upgraded from a XS and the change was impressing. Now… I was just being victim of the hype :D better save these money!

but if everyone stops using stackoverflow for questioning and answering, isn't a matter of time before also gpt won't have the answers? Of course this concept is applied to SO and every other website

It feels so magic to live in places with extreme conditions. Lack of comforts, internet on/off and the real danger that something really important suddenly brokes, I imagine that it let you feel more alive than ever!

Don't know if it's something that's only poetic and beautiful when thinking about it or if it's the real deal, but imagining myself, after a long day with -50°C outside, to be 10k miles from everyone and everything, just with my blanket and a book or a movie that I waited 20 days to have fully downloaded.
