and from the comments on that blog:

> The code your referring to .. the unknown c++ looks like the older IBM compilers found in OS400 SYS38 and the oldest sys36.

> The C++ code was used to write the tcp/ip stack for the operating system and all of the communications. The protocols used were the following x.21(async) all modes, Sync SDLC, x.25 Vbiss5 10 15 and 25. CICS. RSR232. This was a very small and powerful communications framework. The IBM system 36 had only 300MB hard drive and one megabyte of memory, the operating system came on diskettes.

> This would be very useful in this virus. It can track and monitor all types of communications. It can connect to everything and anything.

I trusted Google, I bought their products and I used their services, I bought a nexus one and always said yes to them monitoring my data, I thought it would help them understand me better. I loved wave, got into the plus beta, I thought Google was part of my brain.

Then they banned me from G+ for using my own name. The appeal process took two months, was entirely impersonal and finally resulted in me remaining banned. When combined with their widespread censorship, capitulation to corrupt governments and the new privacy policy.. As far as I am concerned, I am not leaving Google, Google left me.

Google lost me at Nymwars, they banned me, a loyal customer who had given them loads of money, for using the same name I use all over the net. That was the binary switch for me, perhaps they had been eroding my trust for years, but there was a clear snapping point where they jumped from good guys to bad guys, and it was a calculated business move on their part.

I am now weening myself off google, its hard, they own half the net, but when their own employees are being silenced for defending my best interests, it is time to leave.

I love the idea, but there is no way I am moving to the US, especially not to start a tech company, even if you pay me. Silicon valley may have a lot of talent and money, and Y combinator is awesome, but I'd rather not deal with the TSA, the DEA and the DHS. Fascist oligarchies are not conducive to startups.

No, how about we not end either?

Can anyone demonstrate to me that Piracy is actually such a huge problem? These media corporations are making record profits, piracy is not killing them, they are just being greedy.

I consider this kind of legislation to be a symptom of a wider problem, even if these bills are defeated, more will come.

Wealth has been held above all other value, and that myopia guarantees an endless succession of ever more retarded policy. Only fundamental electoral and economic reform can stem the global tide of blind individualism. Once you are chasing wealth, there is never "enough", even making a huge profit is insufficient if it wasn't more profit than you made last quarter.

The saddest part is that so much of this greed is no longer even perpetuated by humans, with some %60 of global fast trades being done by algorithms, we have invented heartless entities to worship our corporate gods and to unquestioningly do their bidding.

These companies are not being destroyed by pirating, they are not on the ropes looking for a handout. The content industry is making record profits, pumping out derivitive schlock that is creatively bankrupt and rakes in the cash. But even that is not enough for them, they must have more, they must crush their opposition and monetize everything.

I used it a lot, then stopped while nymwars got sorted out, then got caught in nymwars myself, i can no longer post or comment while my account, which is linked to my phone and gmail, is under review.

Like hueypriest hasn't become enough of an egotistical megalomaniac as it is, he has been banning entire reddits, creating an army of super mods and shadow banning anyone who questions his decisions. Great CEO material right there...

You CAN use their service, there are a large number of open diaspora servers, and you can even set up your own if you want.

Problem is, once you're on there, none of your friends are, and even if you manage to convince even a fraction of your facebook friends to come across, it still totally lacks functionality. At the moment all you can do is post pictures and status updates, thats it.

I would love to see regular updates of exactly what they're working on without having to monitor their git repo. Just assuring us they're working on it every couple of months while asking for more money and more time is very very dodgy.
