Different brands use different formulations, apparently the brand that the dealership puts in at BMW/MINI doesn't play nicely with some of the brands from supermarkers.

Other cars in the same class had it as standard - for example the Fiesta ST or the Polo GTI, I just didn't like the cabin or the ride quality on the Fiesta compared to the MINI. And the Polo felt totally bland.
The Fiesta and Polo are so heavy now they need independant rear suspension like the MINI has.
I have a 2019 MINI Cooper S with Professional iDrive, I can confirm it is buggy.
It's the best system, but it's still awful.
Sounds no worse than the factory Wireless CarPlay on my 2019 F56 Cooper S. It's infuriatingly laggy and buggy. Best bit was that when I ordered the car is was a near £2k option to add it because you had to buy the upgraded Nav option, which I didn't want. I've used it once and although it's fine, it isn't as good as Waze for traffic.
Just give me CarPlay, I'll still spend that £2k but on things I need like a electrically heated front screen, or better seats.

Depends where you live I suppose. A Jazz (what it's called in the UK) starts at £15k, a Smart back before they went electric only in this market was well under £9k.

The vehicle had an huge fuel cell installed, it's likely they had much larger fuel pumps added to account for increased consumption caused by having a higher intake pressure.
As for electronics, what sort of upgrades are you imagining? A handbuilt AMG engine already has all the trick things you'd want for engine management any way.
As someone from the UK who's driven a lot in the US, to cut road deaths you guys should just make your driving test more standardised across states and also much more difficult to pass.

Yeah, I've got subscriptions to multiple services now (Amazon, Disney, Netflix, and I have a satellite TV subscription too). I used to run a very slick seedbox that would auto download all the stuff I wanted and then stream it with Plex, I had accounts with all the top private trackers.
It's getting to the point now where I'm sick of paying so much money and the idea of that seedbox is far more appealing. It's not just the money, it's having to dart about several different applications and remotes to try and find what you want to watch, drives me mad.

They don't sell the A1 in the US, and that version is actually the S1 and cost £27k for the base version when launched here in the UK. It's a bit of a one-off they sold hardly any of them.
Again, there are fast A3s but the vast majority sold aren't that quick.

That started off as a Morris Mini-Minor, turned into a Morris Mini/Austin Mini, then just a Mini, then Rover Mini, then BMW turned it into it's own brand, MINI.
Ford are presumably just taking the brand awareness of the Mustang to create a sub-brand of performance cars. Which makes sense as people all over the world are aware of the Mustang.
Like healthcare in the UK, private companies presumably won't go out of business but will instead offer a more expensive alternative for those willing to pay. An example I have is my Dad who at 60 needs a double need replacement, the NHS standard is to give him a full replacement free at the point of access for his knee that is totally shot. But he'll only get a partial replacement on the one that's not totally buggered. Well he didn't want that - he wants both doing to the same level because he's still very active, so he's going private in this case. Did he have to? No. But he wanted something above what the NHS was offering. And it's no slight on the NHS, he used them when he had cataracts around five years ago without any issue - his wait time was only a few weeks from the referral too.
I would probably be willing to pay for a better connection that what the government would provide as standard if offered because I spend my entire life online, I'm sure there will still be private ISP options with USPs to suit how I use the internet.
In the end that could easily give consumers more choice than they get now in areas that have poor coverage (where they usually get the option of a <4mb ADSL connection or 3/4G Celluar). Instead of areas where they can get Virgin Media, FTTP, FTTC, or 5G coverage.
We still have insurance companies and private healthcare here, it's just most people don't use it because what we pay for any way is good enough. So then the private ISPs just have to offer something better.
