I have built advertisement bidders and ad servers. I avoid querying the database on every request (and caches) by creating app in-memory materialized views of the database. Another cool feature of the replication protocol is that I can tell if all app servers are on the same version of the data.

How many hours of battery you can get from the X1?
Is anyone using this as a daily driver? If this is your case, what is your experience? I'm a linux user looking for a new laptop. My preference would be a thinkpad but the Apple machine looks way superior. Migrating to Apple OS is a no go for me. My mainly use will be internet browsing, js development with vim + running docker containers.
I have traveled from Spain till Iceland in a 300 euros bike. In my opinion, the bike is not that important if you do not carry too much weight, visit countries were certain spare parts are not available and finding someone that can weld aluminium is not impossible. Just avoid rear suspension. Do not put too much weight since this puts too much presion on the spokes.
Instead spend the money in: good tyres (schwalwe, continental), paniers (ortlieb) and racks (tubus) and saddle (brooks) since this are the components that wear out really fast.
Gas stove does not work well in moderate cold climate. I discovered this the hard way. If the temp. Is gonna be about 0C buy a petrol stove. You can save a lot of money being pragmatic. I.e chopsticks are lighter than titanium fork.
If you travel alone buy a camping tent for two. You will need extra real state for your stuff.

How did you get to that conclusion? The human kind has been around for a long time.
I heard many times about tcl or tcl/tk. Never paid attention until today. I really liked the language but looks like kind of dead to me. Last tclkit version is 8 years old. I tried to compile a tcl/tk application to an executable file and most of the websites explaining the process pointed to broken links (other docs, executables, etc).
Is tcl/tk still alive?

Bienvenido! I do not think that the language is going to be a barrier for the kind of companies you are looking for. Also, you can always look for a remote job.
If I was you I'll double check other cities like Valencia, Málaga and Mallorca.
Bear in mind that the cost of life in Spain can vary a lot from one city to the other.
If politicians were working for the common good and not just for the big transnational companies we will not have this problem. What about fixing that?

GMO is a technique. As a technique is it not good or bad. The problem is the big geopolitics and economic interests behind it.
Backend developer here. Everytime I need to create some sort of rich UI I discovered that the last framework I learnt was "no longer valid". Happened with JQuery, Knockout and now Angular 1.
My feeling is that frontend development is overcomplicated/overbloated. Specially with the big players (Angular, React). Lucky me, I found my way with riot.js. Simple, elegant, lightweight and fast enough. You don't need a lot of complicated boilerplate, nor learning a new template language or syntax.
Moved to Germany 3 years ago, going to to Spain this year. Tech scene here in Germany is way better than in Spain, but social life... I gave up a long time ago. My plan is to go back and make my own thing. If I'm not successful I'll try to work in remote. I know things are moving forward in Madrid and Barcelona. What about Valencia?

I did it on holidays. Switched to dvorak for programmers 6 years ago. Never again pain in my wrist. I'm a vim user, that was a little difficult. Total time to be confortable with the change about 2 weeks. After that it became my main layout.
Worst is that since systemd you have less choices. I've been doing my personal research and while you have a dozen of interesting projects for the desktop there is not that much options for the server specially if your production environment is cloud based.
What makes English an elitist skill is precisely its natural language nature. I hope you had some time to visit europe. All of us get English as a second or third language at school.In european countries were films and tv programs are translated to their own language is not that easy to find common people that can speak English beyond the pretty basic. And this is a reality in countries like Italy, Spain, France or Germany.
In such countries, when you want to learn english —and you do not have a lot of money— your best deal is to travel to UK and get a crappy job so you can learn the language.

Yes. It doubles Chinese or Spanish. But again, we are in 2016. As a civilization we have a global communication system. But we can not understand each other.
We are 7 billion people. 200 million speak english as a secondary language and 300/400 million as main language. With this numbers, don't you think that it will be better to find a language that is fine for everybody? Or when someone wants get into the international arena he/she must to learn English which will take years?
I'm still defending my argument. And for that reason I'm saying that "English is already spoken by X people" is not argument. And that is the argument I always hear about this topic.
My argument is that to learn and master a natural language will take years —and even with a lot of effort— you will probably not master it. Which makes English an elitist skill. Should the international language be an elitist thing? No, it should not. If your mother tongue is a Germanic one then you will find English quite easy. Otherwise not.
Non natural languages like esperanto are easier to learn and master. In a couple of months you are used to them.
English is the third most spoken language. There is more people speaking Spanish and almost double speaking Chinese. More or less 1 of every 7 people in the world speaks Chinese. Should we make Chinese the lingua franca? Why is english better? Also, there are more people speaking Spanish than English.
Only for the native english speakers. Others we must do a tremendous effort. Even worse, in a discussion —because you are not native— you feel always weaker. So my point will be for a non natural language. Easy to learn for everybody so we all play with the same rules.

The unemployment in Germany is 6% that is true. But one of every five works is a minijob, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marginal_employment. With a minijob you get about 400 net/month. A minijob does not include social security which is mandatory in Germany. Take 160 euros.
