I agree with you, but the problem with this approach is there a vocal minority (in the US at least) that vehemently opposes this as it hurts votes for "their side". The last thing they want is an educated, critical thinking, populace. They want people who will fall in line, and do as they are let to believe.

If the market were rational, I would agree with you.

But it is not, and Musk has a weird cult of personality around him.

Basically, the way I understand it, is the probability of a Big Bang spontaneously occurring (due to the quantum fluctuations) is some godawful infinitesimally low number 0.00000...1 that for all intents and purposes is 0, but is NOT zero.

So given ungodly eons of time (googleplex ^ googleplex * graham's number, etc. of years) something with a very, very, very low probability becomes inevitable.

DS9 is peak Star Trek for me. It took what I loved about TNG and gave it the "Babylon 5" Arc treatment with a bit more darkness to it. I would highly recommend watching the whole series. It's available now on just about every streaming service.

False Equivalence. A phone conversation is between two parties only, not a broadcast to the widest possible audience.

It might even be logical with the above 3 steps in place for zero/low risk group to deliberately seek out the virus. This grants immunity quicker, and if they become sick, they can receive treatment whilst hospitals are still underwhelmed.

This is extremely irresponsible. The long-term effects of the virus are currently unknown but there are some worrying signs of possible long-term lung and other-organ damage that have been reported (anecdotally) from China and Italy. It's going to take time for these studies to be done.

Not to mention the immunity period length is unknown at this time. If this coronavirus follows the pattern of other coronaviruses, immunity could last 6 months to a year tops. That is ... not good. And a secondary infection could be worse than the first due to immune system overresponse/cytokine storm.

It's important we take the time to study these secondary effects and allow time for treatments and/or a vaccine to be developed and studied before we come up with any long-term plan.

Well I'm not in marketing, and I attribute tons of our growth to good marketing - but I was responsible for the development and deployment of our tech stack. Basically rewrote a legacy platform I inherited (.NET 1.0 WebForms yall on a single Windows server with SQL 2003) from scratch. (2 devs and me as lead). Added a headless CMS (they were literally FTPing .ASPX pages up every night to update the home page). Deployed the whole thing with containers on azure and increase site speed and reliability by a few orders of magnitude.

And now I'm switching it all to shopify plus with no regrets. I learned a hell of a lot coding my own ecommerce platform, and would love to work for a company like Shopify.

In the interim we are using our legacy system. I wrote a connector that uses the Shopify admin api to fetch unfullfilled orders and fulfill them.

Long term we are thinking Ship Station or maybe ZenDesks ecommerce offering.

I'm currently converting a homegrown multi-million dollar eccommerce platform to Shopify and it's been a dream. Most of the significant lifting was done in less than 2 weeks.

Their graphql api has just been amazing, not to mention all the other developer services they provide.

OFC, I do feel like I'm coding myself out of a job, as I've spent the last 7 years building and maintaining that system.

Same here. On a positive note, all our apps are still working - apparently their internal DNS is still working, at least in the same datacenters.

It could have, and in fact Notch moved to reddit shortly after Minecraft's "birth" which helped expand it's popularity exponentially. (He went from posting on /v/ 100% to 100% on /r/minecraft over the course of a couple months - memory is hazy)

I'm convinced the initial randomness/anonymous feedback/chaos of that initial period helped grow the spark from the ember that split off of Infiniminer.

There is something creative in the chaos of 4chan - just look a greentexts. 99% of them are absolutely terrible. But the occasional gem catches on and made viral on the larger, less vile sites.

Also, I can't believe I forgot about Caturday. That started on 4chan as well. (also 10+ years ago).

Minecraft.

Ok admittedly, this was 10 years ago and 4chan was a much different place (as was the internet at large). I was younger and spent a lot of (read: too much) time on 4chan back then.

At the very beginning of Minecraft, before it was even a thing, Notch would post on /v/ about it almost daily - incorporating changes/suggestions/criticisms people would fling at him anonymously and randomly. No one thought it would be huge - it was just fun. And Notch was so receptive.

I can't help but think his current Alt-Right views may have been influenced by his exposure to 4chan, but in those days it wasn't as crazy as it is now.

I have a 4 year old daughter now who LOVES Minecraft. And personally, it's been valuable to me, and I am utterly convinced that had Minecraft not been developed in its earliest days on 4chan, it might not have gotten to where it is today.

*Small shoutout also to Katawa Shojo - also made with lots of input from 4chan, which turned out to be quite a compleling VN game.

What has 4chan done lately that is valuable? That I couldn't tell you.

I spent nearly $400 on CompuServe playing "Island of Kesmai" as a kid.

It was the first and only time I ever saw my dad visibly tremble with rage and turn red. ($400 80's bucks is a lot of 2019 bucks to spend on a video game.)

Cynical Answer:

It's affecting FB's bottom line.

White nationalism is in the news and on the rise in the US/Europe and therefore spooking advertisers who only really care what the pundits in US/Europe are talking about.

This soothes them over = money for FB.

My hope is that the algorithms and models developed for slowing the spread of White Nationalism will also work (down the road) for things like Hindu Nationalism, Chinese, etc.

My assumption is that they were building for MSSQL Server first, where AD/Windows Authentication is still the most popular authentication scheme.

I HIGHLY recommend it, and this is from someone doing web since 1997.

I started in 97 as well, and cannot recommend Vue enough. I've done React, Angular 1 & 2, and I keep coming back to Vue.

I always feel like with React/Angular I'm conforming to work how they want me to work. (Esp. Angular - React is more forgiving). Whereas Vue is just a complement to the way I already work. I can use as much or as little of it as I wish.

It is not illegal to have other goals than maximizing shareholder value.

For example, Costco. Publicly traded company but the employees are paid well, customers are well taken care of, and the CEO is rewarded for this. In the short-term, Costco could generate an enormous amount of value by automated, reducing wages, and finding cheaper supplies and lowering quality, selling their customer's membership information, etc.

But they don't. And there is nothing illegal about it.

How does a national health care system (say such as Canada or UK) encroach on personal freedom? (Short of say the obvious...increased taxes for you.)

I've found a lot of "opponents" of universal healthcare actually support a safety net for less fortunate people - they just don't want to pay for it. This is a perfectly valid reason, but I wouldn't call it encroaching on personal freedom, so I'm curious as to how else you see it affecting liberty?

Incidentally, Meph has also made one of the most fantastic game enhancing DF mods out there, Masterwork Dwarf Fortress.[1]

I had heard on my local NPR this morning that they had already done so, apparently they have just been receiving ever increasing requests for this feature.

KAYAK has reported that people in the USA are filtering out 737 MAX8/9 flights now in ever increasing numbers. (Orbitz and Expedia have followed KAYAK's lead and added filters to filter out this plane.)

IMO, It's only a matter of time before public pressure forces either the government, or the carriers themselves to ground the planes.
