GPT4 is multimodal in the sense that it can take images as input. The person is using a speech to text system such as OpenAIs Whisper and serving screenshots and voice transcripts to GPT4 and GPT4 is returning a text response which is converted to speech using a text to speech system such as OpenAIs TTS API.
I don’t know how one would settle the question but I’d venture to say that Theravada is not less close to the Western impression of Buddhism than other parts of Buddhism.

I would like a source for the first claim. When I read the preprint for this paper half a year ago it was actually one of their claims that to the best of their knowledge their Pong experiment was the first to show human neurons being ‘better’.

Surely this cannot be an argument for whether something is a legitimate field. Surely there are some scientists somewhere studying the risks of a very risky viruses. At least prima facie, such research would neither be boring or unnecessary.
I think I heard of people with brain damage who does not keep an internal state, they feel like they continuously wake up and only remember memories from before the brain damage. That would be a kind of parallel to consider, or at least somewhat analogous. I think most of us assume that such people would have phenomenal consciousness / subjective experience / qualia

I heard from a chemistry researcher that it is also common in that field to give vague descriptions of synthesis procedures in order to allow authors to churn out more papers.
This is a valid problem and my impression is that researchers are aware of this problem but are just working with what they have got.

You mean that blinding is not meant to be able to separate the effect from placebo? If so, I don't agree. I often hear it mentioned in the context of psychedelic research that it is a problem that psychedelics result in unblinding. E.g. Seems very unlikely to me that it would not be a combination. We have both rational and irrational parts, conscious and unconscious parts.
I'd venture one does not have to look far in the anthropology literature to find good evidence that gifts just like other favors serves a function in building reciprocal relationships. Since it is likely so fundamental, I have a hard time believing it would not have any effect on the independence of the doctor.
Might be wrong, but I think they just mean that when you do large scale trials you aggregate over the population, and determine if the medication had a statistically significant effect. You can get evidence that a subgroup does not react well, but you might not, if that is not your focus.
A key concept and solution here is 'precision medicine', tailoring medicine based on more precise information about the individual.
