FWIW I have Bose Frames which are great and do the same thing minus the camera.

I've never understood it either. I still deploy some things into their own respective manual deployments but for lots of things having a pre-made docker compose means I can throw it on my general app VM and it'll take 5 seconds to spin up and auto get HTTPS certs and DNS. Then I don't lose hours when I get two days into using something and realize it's not for me.

Also have you read some of the setup instructions for some of these things? I'd be churning out 1000 lines of ansible crap.

Either way since Proxmox 9.1 has added at least initial support for docker based containers the whole argument's out the window anyway.

I don't think I've ever seen a Helm template that didn't invoke nightmares. Probably the biggest reason I moved away from Kubernetes in the first place.

I have had this set for a while now and anytime I see someone elses youtube page I am horrified.

Probably the first setting I would recommend for anyone to enable.

I've had better experience with Armcrest cameras but same setup. Moved from using Arlo to a completely local setup and do not regret it one bit.

Worst part was just running ethernet to the spots where the cameras needed to go (only crawlspace access) but nice not having to charge batteries and even nicer knowing i'm not sending video to netgear anymore.

Actually surprised I never stumbled on this while I was looking for an IRC client. I ended up on on The Lounge for a while and that's always been pretty good.

Will give this a go because I would always prefer a native client in the first place and this looks excellent!

Same and never understood why it wasn't the default from the get go but maybe it wasn't so synonymous when it first came out.

I run a small git LFS server because of this and will be happy to switch away the second I can get git to natively support S3.

I used to really like the minis but I had to basically e-waste two of them because the ethernet went bad (lightning strike i think) and there was really no way to replace them and the OS would crash from hardware issues from it.

To be fair you can't really control that either. Nothing stops someone from just copy and pasting or taking a screenshot of the data.

I've had great success with using propolis[0] on burns and wounds. Definitely anecdotal but the ones I've used it on have definitely healed faster.

I don't really see where it saves any time. You still have to build the initial template. Then every time you post you go copy and paste that template into ChatGPT?

I guess you could write a script that reads your template and body and submits the whole thing to chatgpt API then dumps out the file. But you also have to double check the whole thing again to make sure it didn't mess anything up or change any text?

Why use something that can take next to no CPU and instead use massive energy sucking LLM?

A handy mostly straightforward UI with built in backup/restore and other useful tools.

It's hardly a requirement but if someone is just starting to learn, proxmox has lots of documentation on how to do things and the UI keeps you from footgunning yourself copy/pasting config code off websites/LLM too much.

I've been an AirVPN customer for years and really no complaints. They aren't the most flashy or advertised but have never failed me!

This is the absolute first thing I ever install now. The amount of time it saves me is immeasurable.

There's no way I'm going to manually curate every command I type, I've got actual work to do.

To be fair it's not hard, there is no shortage of things to complain about.

Part of the whole reason I like Garmin is because the data is easily accessible without "storing it in the cloud".

I gladly accept the openness given the alternative is to just trust some company with it and hope they one day don't take away my ability to access the data directly without some kind of subscription.

I've been using Plex+PlexAmp for a while but have been really wanting to move to something outside of that.

I use DNS verification for this then the server doesn't even need to be exposed to the internet.

I built up an AI Agent using n8n and email doing exactly this. Works great and was surprised I'd not seen any other place kicking the idea around.

Probably my favorite use case is I can shoot it shopping receipts and it'll roughly parse them and dump the line item and cost into a spreadsheet before uploading it to paperless-ngx.
