My reaction is to the discussion more than the the article.
Many have noted that LLMs are relatively good at writing code because they learned from all the code and other material, such as books, written before.
But let's say that we no longer produce the learning material, will LLMs be able to progress on their own or the slop they make (and read) will eventually lead to the decay of the models?
Will the models decay if left to their own devices?
I think eventually things will work themselves out, but our immediate future appears to be bleak. The elites, including political elites, use AI to acquire more wealth, to become more efficient at war. They already don't give a flying fuck about what the peoples think as you can not hold them accountable for their actions. Admit it! You can't hold them accountable in the West.
So they are running unchecked to get richer, get more power, get more stuff. What needs to happen for that to change?

Since we are on the topic of russian literature I'd definitely recommend reading something other than the usual suspects Dostoevsky and Tolstoy.
One of my personal favourites is Bulgakov'с Master and Margarita and The Bull's Hour by Ivan Efremov.
Bull's Hour is actually amazing as it explores societies built on different principles using a form of a novel.
Russians consider their profession a calling and try to be the best at it. Makes big difference when it's calling and not just-a-job.
I dunno what attitude russia's gen-z holds towards profession but in my time it was definitely considered a calling.
Not only that. Corporations are filled with excellent software developers from Russia who did not go to any specialized schools or graduated from prestigious universities.

I was making 35K back then and it was enough to afford relatively good living - car, groceries, gas, occasional meal for 2 at a restaurant.
And gas was 35cents on the Wet Coast of Canada.
