Those LuaJIT numbers are really microbenchmarks with small working sets though, and wouldn't show the cache effects of increased memory usage.

BTW data layout transformations like compressed fields would also be useful on 32-bit. The vast majority of object graphs would be happy with 16 or even 8-bit identifiers, not to mention JS numbers which are all 64-bit floats even on 32-bit platforms.

What makes you think this? Assuming you mean the USA, I would think there are countries in northern european where diet is on average approached more "scientifically". For example, national nutrition recommendations are taken very seriously and abided by in school/workplace cafeterias.

Sure, but it means much bigger swaths of C/C++ code and your game app is no longer a python program that imports some extension modules for performance critical tasks or third party lib bindings.

Yeah, the freely available Python libs may not seem polished enough. [edit: not that I have experience trying to ship multiplatform games with them] But: if you flip it around embedding Python in your C++ framework as a "scripting engine", it's pretty crappy too compared to a natively Python-driven system. And since most people aren't starting from scratch it's not so easy to configure the custom engine as a bunch of Python extensions either.

I've played around with multitouch on Ubuntu, it does work with some hardware (but not if the driver intercepts the touches and synthesizes something like scrollwheel events, that's bad).

Nokia bought the Qt company, Trolltech, and sold off the part doing commercial support to Digia. The people actually hacking on Qt stayed with Nokia.

Now the question is how much actual development Digia can actually afford to keep.

It's the subset of Android that is released as open source some time after the proprietary versions are shipped.

The guys doing new stuff are/were working for Nokia though, the commercial support part was split off from Nokia and sold to Digia. Judging from Digia's front page, Qt isn't a big part of the company. Are they interested, rich and capable enough to ramp up staff, expertise and community support to take over Qt development? I haven't paid close attention but how visible have they been in the open Qt development scene?

It's not as black and white as having a shitty vs fulfilling job. Many (most?) retirees are coming from ok jobs and are conflicted but positive about retiring, seeing it as a transition to antother phase of life.

The workaholic is a special type of person.

Edit: to add, I do understand how it's important for people to feel useful, and I agree it's a good idea to stay active after retirement.
