If the response suggests a sponsored product/service to the user it could either be the specific product/service that ChatGPT is biased to suggest or the whole idea of using a product/service. As a user I would like to know both of these biases to understand that using any product/service for my need might not even be the best thing.

I work at a Swedish state authority and we don't have architects deciding software architecture, the teams do that themselves. There's however an "architecture guild" composed of about 6-8 senior architects that happily help you out if you want to have help, suggestions or review of your current or future architecture. I think that's a nice way of having good support if you need it.

Don't write another line of code. Setup mob programming with your colleagues and stay away from the keyboard. Instruct them what to do and answer all their questions. It will be slow at first but highly deliberating when they've understood the task and they can be more or less autonomous.

I'm willingly pigeonholing myself as a "software developer mostly working on the JVM" just to be honest about my (current) main strengths/experince. Throwing me into a Go/Python/whatever project would first need some time for me to get up to speed with the language.

I think those who enjoy that kind of scenes are very distanced to it (not making a connection to reality). I totally understand you since you've been in combat and relates entertainment violence to real violence. I've gotten changed after having kids. Watching kids suffer hurts my heart and seeing adults suffer can cause me to see them as someones grown up kids. There is (most often) a view you can have on violence that causes empathy.

Yes, I agree. I work at a Swedish automotive startup with about 12 backenders. We praise each other a lot in our PR reviews and I really feel I don't need anything more than that. I'm a swede watching a lot of NFL and college games. Often the only thing I see are American times and need to input them easily in my calendar. Then I'm more interested in inputing "1pm EST" into my calendar and let the calendar figure out when to alert me of the game.

AFAIK the Evernote client caches your notes locally in a readable file format. I back up that folder in case Evernote goes down.

Super interesting, did not know this and looked it up (I'm a Swede). Washing eggs is NOT illegal in the EU (at least in Sweden) if your washing them at a certified plant. Washing them the wrong way can spread bacteria through the shell of the egg. So a farmer without the certified plant is not allowed to wash the eggs. Washed eggs are marked as washed to the consumer and all eggs I've ever bought in stores here have been washed.

Amen to that! I often end up in discussions and decision making at work were I haven't even scratched the surface with my knowledge of the problem. Trying to listen and absorb as much information from the people that know most about the problem is my way of trying to quickly be able to make a decision (if that's needed).

Amen, the Android share menu. Seems like it tries to go through the entire history of my previous shares to see what is most popular, then asks every app that enables sharing to list their respective sharing targets. Some of these apps also checks which of its own sharing targets are most popular (like the sms app and Messenger). Finally it renders a long list that to me feels random each time and not always relevant. /End rant

Totally disagree. Our startup use Kubernetes and Google Cloud and shipped an MVP in a few months. No operations people only devs and devops. Kubernetes is not perfectly set up yet and the logging has failed sometimes but we ship code to production many times per day and are really happy about not having to care about infrastructure that much. Three nodes and Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL) goes a long way.

I feel the same, the world gets dark if I get too little sleep. But having kids, and the loss of the sleep that means (if you help out in the household and work), did not affect me in the same way. I don't know if I'm chemically programmed to not seeing the world as dark when I have to take care of kids even if I'm really tired or if the kids brighten my world more than the sleep deprivation darkens it.

Sorry to say that I'm one of those guys. I never comment code that is straightforward and easy to understand if I succeed with naming classes, methods and variables right. If I need to solve something in an illogical way due to other requirements/bugs that are out of my control I comment it.

No comments are better than comments with errors. The code is the only true fact.

I came across it when studying computer science 20 years ago, yes. Heard about it after that but never directly needed the knowledge.

I'm sure it's used under the hood in a lot of code I write and have written but so is XOR, manual memory management and a bunch of other lower level implementations that I don't need to spend time on when developing on a higher abstraction level.

Not sure why you would expect all programmers to know about binary trees specifically.

Was it necessary to know on the top of your head without Googling what a binary tree is for the position the candidate applied for? I've been a developer for 12 years and I've never had the use for that. Computer science is a VERY large field and being good at everything is impossible.

Asking the right questions at interviews are crucial for finding the right people. If a candidate for a programming job knows binary trees but doesn't listen to other peoples views I would say he's less worth to us than a listener that easily learns new concepts but is currently not familiar with binary trees.

BTW, leaving a candidate in tears is not professional recruiting. Please let someone with more people skills accompany you to your interviews, you might leave people with scars that takes years to heal.
