I almost pulled the trigger on a Prologue; so glad I had second thoughts. Even though it was essentially a GM product, I've only ever owned Hondas, so I thought "Well, at least I can get service at my Honda dealer".

Charging in the US (other than at home) is still the biggest issue for me. I do lots of traveling, and waiting 30-45 minutes to charge even at a Level 3 charger is a PITA. If I had a J std charger, then it's even longer. This makes my monthly 8 hour trips one-way another 2 hours - this sucks. Sorry - I'll keep my 2005 Honda Element with 445K miles. Another engine would be cheaper than less than a year of car payments. And it's pretty much indestructible.

In exurban Atlanta, my home has been broken into 3 times in the past 4 years. I was home for the last one; I was alerted by my Ring doorbell and the crook never got past the front hallway. While I live in a city with a (relatively) large police force, they can't be everywhere all the time. Once I called they were there in 30 seconds but the person was gone. I don't have a gun nor do I wish one, although I understand why so many people here do have a firearm.

I've no idea who it was nor do I care. I imagine most people , like me, just want to protect themselves, and are not on a hunt to single out POC. I like I'm able to use technology to at least give my and my family a chance to be safer. Do I have cameras? Yes. And I check them. having the knowledge regarding people who come to your home uninvited is a powerful tool.

From my perspective, it's interesting a black woman invented the concept, but it matters less than the actual technology. Ingenuity comes to people , not x-kinds of people. I imagine that's not a view most YC folks share but it's probably more in line with the vast number of US citizens.

But property taxes are local. Raising them only supplies more revenue to the local area. For the US, also, one needs to take into account many states have limits on property tax rates and revenue raises in general, such as millage rates have to be fully balanced with spending, which in turn, has limits. Excess rate increases will simply make those areas less valuable, which will push people to even lower taxed areas, which, at least in the US, are even more rural areas, thereby increasing the concern for climate change and a reduction in population density.

Unless, of course, you live in an HOA which requires you to not leave your clippings on the lawn. If only there was a place round here where there wasn't an HOA!

Human nature - it is a b*tch. Let's face it - as you say, most people are looking out for themselves; they rarely, if ever, think about the cashier or stock clerk who's working 3 jobs and still not making it. And it's not a "screw everyone else" sort of attitude, it's more of not even thinking about it because they're absorbed with their own lives.

Only when folks are faced with how such a reality affects them, such as when a company lays them off and they have little marketable skills after toiling away in a throwaway job for 10 years, do they actually give any real consideration to how others live - because they now are facing the same sort of conditions and giant concrete roadblocks.

If only we had gone all in on Beanie Babies. We cleared $20K+ selling BBs on the side of the road that year. I wanted to spend our whole savings and hire people to sell them for us - we were buying them out the back doors of Hallmark stores. Wife didn't. But we still made enough to put down a sizable down payment on our current house.

Same at my company. We're a small BU at a large multi-national, very flat whereas most of the other BUs ave lots of overhead - they fill lots of DI-type jobs with these folks.

Biggest issue is corporate expects us to produce the same Power BI type of output with deep slide decks for corporate level meetings with no extra resources. Our BU just got an award for best financial performance within the corporation yet no one ever asked how - we've been busting butt for long time, making and selling product instead of making higher-ups feel important while our CEO goes on MSNBC shows spouting off about how the DI crap is making the company so much better. Lots of created make-work.

I'm no right-wing nut. My co-workers could be the UN - but we don't care about that; we just do our jobs - we're good at it and making things cheaper and easier.
