These models are weapons whether the frontier provider founders and their trite and lofty mission statements like it or not.
Private individuals and private companies do not get to create a defensive weapon with unprecedented power in a new category in the US and not share it with the US military.
You guys are batshit insane.
Per the "About Me" picture, this particular technologist does not have any hair to tear out.
Why not just look at the code and see if it's good or not?

It is.
Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist
Why the fuck was "LAist" getting federal funding? Glad they're not anymore.
crow about parental autonomy and how they should be in complete control of their children's education and lives.
Ah yes, those monsters
It’s an odd form of white supremacy that views whites as above having material interests of their own.
This is also an interesting way to explain the self-immolating Whites, which nowadays is most of us. Any sort of White group identity or collective interest is absolute heresy which must be opposed, while all things in the collective interest of non-Whites must be celebrated, encouraged, and helped along at our own expense. There's a certain paternalistic arrogance to it, an ethnocentric assumption that other races can't get on without us. And it's much more common and pervasive than the caricature of the like shaved head neo-Nazi we are all expected to imagine exists in large numbers, somewhere.
Or they could just do it whenever they want to for whatever reason they want to. They are not responsible for the mental health of their users. Their users are responsible for that themselves.
Same. I support everything that's going on at DOGE. There's a certain type around here that needs to get used to the fact that their political views do not enjoy industry wide hegemony.
California does not have any Ivy League universities.
It is.
Good point, I guess they could also be Men In Black aliens too and I wouldn’t know that either.
Didn’t detect my VPN. Hopefully this technology sees wide adoption!
I use Librewolf and Orion on MacOS, Orion on iOS/iPadOS (which is Safari I suppose, but the shell is awesome)
I _love_ Walter Kirn.
Weak-link computer chips in items that don’t require them also came in for abuse.
Indeed.
I cannot recommend his podcast with Matt Taibbi [1] or the print-only newspaper he edits-at-large [2] highly enough. The man is an American treasure.
2600 is still in print
Beeper would have interested me, maybe in 6 months if it had seemed like Apple was willing to live with it. I don't want to use iMessage though, I just want to use it more than SMS or RCS. I have gotten a few of my close contacts on Signal. The whole landscape is completely chaotic. All I really want is to be able to send and receive e2ee messages with everyone else who has an extremely capable computer in their pocket.
This is what I do, new Pixel 7 + GrapheneOS. Works great, I highly recommend it.
Ironically I go to gemini to get away from google.
virtually no way to deploy it in a business context.
...there is tailscale
I can't imagine having any data in someone else's so-called "cloud" like this, let alone important data.
I do not anticipate this will be a race to see who can produce the best OS for the consumer, or the most privacy conscious OS either.
Addiction isn't a question of will. You're not weak for not being able to walk away, and you wouldn't be strong if you were able to.
How much do I have to pay netgear to use it?
Did that actually happen?
Submitted by RGBCube an hour ago. Flagged by the inclusive community, I presume. Thought I'd let it have another shot.
Surely it's not a coincidence that Biden will host a diplomatic event there with Xi Jinping next month [1]? After that I'm sure it's right back to the misery and despair.
