No need to meet them in person if they have a digital identity.
The term "normie" predates crypto, though. It goes back to describing anyone who followed the mainstream.
NFTs are the digital equivalent of designer clothes, luxury watches, and fancy cars.
I think this is a limited definition of what an NFT can be.
In most cases the creator of the NFT != the creator of the artwork.
You are describing counterfeit art and is easy to identify
That's like pointing out how many fake Gucci bags are out there and dismissing the real Gucci by saying "in most cases the creator of the Gucci bag is not Gucci."
There are a number of perks that a BAYC membership grants.
Artists can already sell multiple NFTs for the same work of art. But this is information the buyer already knows.
Also to avoid scams as an investor, you'd typically want to invest in artists with a reputation.
I do not think the solution to hate speech and discrimination is to hide the traits that make us different.
If the future of the metaverse is on the blockchain, each digital identity will have a reputation to uphold. I think transparency in people's actions, a reputation system, and a simple moderation system is sufficient to manage toxic behavior.
The user daenz made a good point too:
Its primary feature is to strongly tie someone's identity to their physical body.
I am just being skeptical here. Again, why cant I just have a control panel with a wide range of avatar emotes, the same way we currently have a wide range of emojis.
My physical facial expressions are limited. What if I wanted my jaw to literally drop on the floor? Or my heart to beat out of my chest?
Enabling audio alone has proven to be enough to bring out the worst in people online.
I am not sure if the issue stems from enabling audio. We see this over text on facebook, reddit, and pretty much every gaming platform.
Meta wants to capture your biometric data so that your facial expressions and body language can be mapped onto a 3D avatar in virtual reality. Is this really the future of the metaverse? or is it just what Mark Zuckerberg thinks what the metaverse should look like?
I am a little skeptical of this vision. And I imagine most of the "metaverse" will be experienced through flat screens - and text, voice, and video will remain dominate. VR will grow but do we really need to map our physical expressions onto an avatar to play games or collaborate together? Why go through all this complexity when we can just have controls to enable our 3D avatars to emote?
If you really want to convey facial expressions and a personable experience, just enable video.
I am shocked how this stuff hasn't made its way into HN yet. Everyone PLEASE DYOR and start by researching Cryptopunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club, you can spread out your NFT horizons from there.
We are pioneering on Twitter and Discord. Look into Cryptopunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club.
They should rename to Innovative Online Industries (IOI), because that is the role he will be playing in the metaverse.
Why would you want a stock in Amazon? Why would you want a Bitcoin? Why would you want to own a Picasso painting? I don't understand how an NFT is different from any of these things.
You use your private key to verify ownership. In the digital world, this is the closet you can get to having the "original thing". You can disagree with this, but it doesnt matter because obviously the NFT market believes in this.
Some NFTs just sit there, the same way an original piece of art will just hang on a wall. However, some NFTs can have 'utility'. For example, owning one can qualify you to buy a piece that is exclusive to collectors of a particular artist. The artist can also verify holders and send out physical products. Some artists are using profits to re-invest in larger scale NFT projects as well, like virtual worlds and games.
For those of you trashing NFTs, have you ever bought one? If not, I suggest picking something up on a drop from Nifty Gateway. Of course, research the artist first. I also check out the artist's Twitter page and Discord server to make sure they have a solid community established already.
I have GERD and take esomeprazole daily. I used to take omeprazole but it gave me headaches
I agree ML is a buzzword and using a sentence like that would sound silly but I can elaborate. First, though, regression does not need a separate ML definition to make it distinct from statistics... there's tons of overlap in the field of mathematics.
Machine learning is the study of computer algorithms that improve automatically through experience and by the use of data.
This definition would include something as simple as linear regression.
Linear regression attempts to model the relationship between two variables by fitting a linear equation to observed data.
The purpose of a neural network is exactly the same as a line of best fit. That is, you are just approximating an unknown function based on input/output data. The only difference is that a NN can better approximate a nonlinear function.
Regression is an approach to machine learning

Sorry, but what WSB is doing is free speech. Any analyst can get on TV and announce a price target. What WSB is doing is no different. WSB is a transparent group and everything they say can be read by the public.
The recent bombing in Nashville damaged an AT&T data center.
A large part of Trump's message is that the election results are fraudulent, despite having no evidence to support that claim. Instead, he writes on social media to incite violence at our nation's capitol building... Now we are at risk of overturning an election based on a mere accusation - aren't we past the point where our president is willing to have a rational argument?

Sleep impacts all aspects of health, including mental health, of all age groups.
The unintended consequence of the pandemic is that teenagers are getting more sleep, who now don't have to commute to school to start class at 7 am. Maybe this is a case for high schools to continue to teach classes online (or maybe partially online), even after the pandemic?
