Accept-Language still cause quite a bit annoyance to me though. Because the fallback rule most implements still follows similar assumption as the first point in this article. Languages in the same group doesn't mean the user would accept it.

I don't care if there are any other auto-translated thing that you though it's close enough because they have same prefix that would help.

I even specified the en-US or any other language that original content uses as the secondary candidates, then most just ignores it and serves randomly translated thing that you think would be close enough because you can't tell.

Yup, I know it's more like a preference problem.

But this is also how culture works, we can and want to choose what to accept and what to reject, and just don't want to be the same as the ones who keep acting hostile to us.

Another thing is, related to the OP mainly focused on, they have tendency to oversimplifying words and merging words that are not related, which would cause problem when we communicate.

Take '質量' as mostly used example, which only means mass of matter in zh_TW, but it may also mean quantity and quality in zh_CN, and the list goes on and on.

And about those Japanese words, they don't pollute our tools like the ones in OP stated, we have to choose to use them.

That's another thing we currently struggled with: some of them start seeping into our surroundings.

And part of the reason come from these translation tools, there are many translated materials (website, documentations, etc) produced using tools that do not correctly handle the difference, and those content creators don't really care about that.

Last time I use Octave for my NLP class assignment, I have to create some sort of Matlab stub to make it work since the scripts from the materials provides has many 'version checks' inside, besides that it works perfectly. And I encountered some compatibility issue the other way (Octave back to Matlab) because the professor uses Matlab to run the code we submitted to grade them.

Good choice if you don't want the whole Matlab monstrosity on your computer, but still have to deal with some itty bits.

Same here. The algorithm can't decide how old I am so it just told I lied that I'm not NaN years old.

Actually there is a header for this purpose [Accept-Language on MDN](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Headers/Ac...).

But some sites just don't care about it and try detect this base on other information.

Surely, even using an extension mainly to hide these stuffs.

Not only mirroring SO, also its siblings (like serverfault and askubuntu), and others like GitHub.

But the most annoying part is it keeps showing those mirrored and machine translated stuffs that offers little to none benefits to me and I'm already being forced trained enough to identify those at first glance.

Those even shows up when I'm already searching in other languages, ahrr.
