How do you know when you are interacting with one of "those people"? Even better, how can I join a conversation without being written off as one of them?

From Western New York, when I was 15/16 I got a workers permit to allow me to work at a pizza shop (Mark's Pizzeria) but it had a lot of restrictions like limited hours on a school night. This was over 15 years ago so I am not sure what the laws are now.

I wonder if we will ever see support for white-hat botters. I imagine the game publisher/creator would have a separate server which you could request access to. It could have a bug bounty type system where if your account/bot is able to fool the system you will be rewarded for explaining how you did it. I think there are a lot of gamers that would spend time on this so they don't have to put up with so many bots.

Ideas: Allow users to specify which days of the week are writing days and only track that streak. For every certain period of time (14 days?) completed, the user gets a vacation / skip day. This way the user can keep the streak going without having to write every day and can take days off when needed without losing their streak.

Yes, these discussions need to start happening on a personal, 1-on-1 level. Having these conversations on twitter or on some tv/radio talk show is too intense.

What would be interesting is reading a discussion by two thought leaders that could happen over email (read: slow medium of communication) and edited to bring out the best of each side. Heat of the moment discussions don't help anyone.

Going to take a look at Crucial Conversations. Thanks!

Civilized discussion on hard topics -- There seems to be a large amount of shouting matches going on right now. We need to be able to discuss things in a calm and respectful manner even when we strongly disagree with the other side. There are a lot of buzz words that get thrown out that to me have lost meaning (racist, sexist, etc.). These words do have meaning and there are absolutely people doing these things that need to stop. However, lets stop name calling and start sharing our stories with the intend to do just that, share. When the only goal is to get everyone to believe what you believe, it likely won't be a productive conversation.

I can see the list of extensions doing this but trying to install gives "Server returned 407".

UPDATE: Turns out I have to include my username and password in the URL. I don't install extensions often so I will do this temporary when I do.

That sounds like an awesome first expansion!

They talk about this in one of the special features on the DVDs. The average script length for a typical "hour" show (42 minutes, running time) is one page per minute. Gilmore Girls episodes were closer to 80 pages. They even talk about bringing in a speak coach for the actors so they could learn to speak faster while still being clear.

The full quote is still true.

"There will be no banner ads on the Google homepage or web search results pages. There will not be crazy, flashy, graphical doodads flying and popping up all over the Google site. Ever." -Marissa Mayer

That "banner" is not a "crazy, flashy, graphical doodad". That is pretty much the company's logo.

My understanding is that Facebook uses random peoples name/picture to promote anything they want.

Google uses your Name/picture to show that you have reviewed/+1/etc. something.

Facebook is lying, which is Evil. Google is showing your friends things you chose +1, review, etc.

People keep throwing around the word evil as if it's anything that they disagree with.

You make two assumptions: 1. all spies work for a government 2. government employees follow all the rules and guidelines. that is, they follow the law themselves.
