This is super cool and almost makes it possible building PWAs that only need a dumb http server to deliver the app as a bunch of static files and still allow users to synchronize data between their devices. It still depends on the tracker but if the user could change the tracker it sounds like it's currently the best way to get clients to communicate with each other without depending on a server provided by the PWA.

Does it actually work though? Ironically my experience is that windows api + proton are a more stable target than anything linux native. Pomodoro never has worked for me. The productive periods always seem to end just when I'm in a flow state and the short breaks aren't long enough to do anything really recreational and fun. I now just track my productive and procrastinating time and try to keep them somewhat in balance. For that I hacked together a trivially simple PWA at https://timeth.at/. That way I can chug along for as long as it's comfortable to do something useful without interruption, and also get to enjoy some procrastination time without feeling guilty. I just need a gentle reminder from time to time not to spend 8 hours straight binge watching some show or waste the entire game playing video games.

Not a native English speaker so maybe I'm just not understanding it correctly. Since mDAU are a subset of DAU, probably a tiny subset of it, wouldn't that statement mean that way way less than 5% of DAU would be bots?

That is in interesting comparison. I really wonder if the differences between consumer and pro cards are all just in the driver or if there is a hardware reason for it too. The difference between the P2000 and the gtx 1080 ti in the Siemens NX benchmark looks insane.

It's not like AMD is above artificially limiting the performance of certain workloads when it suits them, they do it with CAD applications unless you pay the workstation tax.

I'm curious about that, do you have an example? I only know of nvidia consumer drivers giving you abysmal performance if you try to use fixed function pipeline line or wireframe rendering with opengl. Or at least they did a couple of years ago. As soon as you used shaders to render the same lines everything got super fast. I always suspected it's their way to force users of CAD systems to buy their pricey professional cards. No game would use opengl line rendering without shaders or if any game did in the long gone past it's probably so old and the line count so low that it would be still fine with the artificial slowdown.

How does the licensing work? According to the GPL FAQ[1] code written by government employees is public domain and can't be licensed with the GPL. I'd imagine similar restrictions would apply to other copyleft licenses.

It probably is a dead end promotion wise. But my impression is that there isn't much of a chance for promotions in most jobs here anyway. If you are trained in some craft in the vocational education system you get a job and do that job basically forever. Most common way to get higher up in that situation seems to be getting more formal education, either by becoming Master craftsmen (Meister) or by getting a college degree. Germany is very finicky about formal degrees. If you already have a college degree things might be different. Still it seems to me that in those cases your best chances to climb the ladder is to switch jobs from time to time. So if you realize there are no promotion for you in stock, or that you have to switch jobs anyway to progress your career, working part time is very much sustainable in the long run. Also if you are lacking the formal education to achieve your career goals you could start working part to have more time to get your degree while working.

In many jobs you can easily work 4 or less days a week in germany because there is a law that gives you the right to part time work. Obviously your wage is reduced accordingly.
