GPT-5 will have "enhanced agentic capabilities” and can handle “complex coding tasks with minimal prompting.”

this seems to be directly targeted at anthropic/claude, wonder if it leads anywhere or if claude keeps it's mystical advantage (especially with new claude models coming out this week as well).

GPT-5 will have four model variants, according to GitHub...

i also find it interesting that the primary model is the logic-focused one (likely very long and deep reasoning), whereas the conversational mainstream model is now a variant. seems like a fundamental shift in how they want these tools to be used, as opposed to today's primary 4o and the more logical GPT-4.1, o4-mini, and o3.

About AI 12 months ago

the people who gain the most from all these tools are not the developers—it’s all the people around who don’t write code

this insight stood out the most to me. i def agree, but what's interesting is the disconnect with the industry--it seems to be accepted rn that if coding is what ai is best at, developers must be the only ones that care, and that seems to have shown up in usage as well (i don't think i've seen much use of ai outside of personal use other than by developers, maybe i'm wrong?)

interesting idea, kind of like the y-combinator of blogging except with upfront tuition being paid instead of a longer-term investment by the 'provider'--i wonder if that business model could work as well?

Automerge 3.0 12 months ago

a number of these sync engines have been growing popular, most notably convex and zero (altho both of course are very different from automerge)--this one's rust/c api makes it more interesting, i wonder if an implementation for terminals uis could be possible?
