If you give an LLM a word problem that involves the same math and change the names of the people in the word problem the LLM will likely generate different mathematical results. Without any knowledge of how any of this works, that seems pretty damning of the fact that LLMs do not reason. They are predictive text models. That’s it.

I find LLM’s to be much worse than the junior engineers I work with. I have tried copilot and I always end up disabling it because it’s often wrong and annoying. Just read the docs for the things you are using folks. We don’t need to burn the rainforest for autocomplete.

I’m really tired of this discourse. The JavaScript ecosystem is the lingua franca of the web. Furthermore, while a segment of the programming community has sat around complaining, JavaScript has gotten really good and continues to improve every passing year. Incremental progress is the key to making progress, not giant paradigm shifts.

WASM is slower than running JavaScript on V8 in almost all scenarios and will likely continue to be for a very long time. Also, many of us don’t want a compile step.

No I haven’t because it’s quite complicated. Databases are very much a solved problem. Unfortunately, this architecture is going to be nigh impossible to hire for and when it goes absolutely sideways recovery will be difficult.

I’m honestly not sure what you are talking about. In my experience, Redis is super easy to run and manage in production.

We didn’t want to build something complicated, so we implemented our own raft consensus layer. Have you considered just using Redis?

I assure you that I am just a normal software engineer that happens to live in South Carolina. This is a matter of practicality for me. If induction became more practical for my family, I would make the switch. The incentives just don’t add up yet where I live.

Totally agree, thank you for the balanced response. Most builders where I live install gas by default. I may have considered induction if I was building from scratch, but it’s really not worth it for us right now. Especially knowing the sources of our electricity at the moment.

No, but my electric company buried tons of coal ash that leaked into the surrounding water table.

I have a gas range, gas water heater, gas logs, and gas backup heat. My gas bill is around $15 a month. My home has proper ventilation to the outside and I have no intention of converting a cheap gas bill into a high electric bill.
