You can keep keep a journal and that's already probably too much information. Who goes back and reads that stuff? What is the point of logging every step you ever too when it doesn't matter in the slightest? I keep track of some details in regards to exercise, but I throw the sheets away at the end. And the values I keep are just to reference how much I am doing and if I should increment. Is there really anything interesting about going back to check on that? Does a big long Apple Watch streak equal a life lived?

Maybe they had internal teams that were working on a new social network app and are now divesting from that (not working on it, not releasing it). Maybe they had a lot of smaller teams who were iterating on the experience to increase engagement, lower friction etc which they will now not pursue etc. "Bloat" is a bit naive that somehow they are just paid to look at the left corner of their office or something. The company built out teams to look into new experiences or to make the experience better and they are going to be doing less of that at least for a while

And you know, we've been poisoning ourselves for a really long time amiright? The industrial age, smog, bpa, micro plastics. THERE IS NO LIMIT TO THE ABUSE WE CAN PUT ON OURSELVES. Woo

k thanks, so I guess you've studied this for as long as it took to write 129 words on the subject. I am going to have to be way more interested in the actual people who are studying and experimenting with this at this point, I can't allocate any interest at all in your 129 word paper on the subject.

You really have to respect that Hacker News now has a website offering a free course for working out on its main page. But really I get it, he's worked out in 50 countries and people ask him "how they train in Taiwan or Ecuador." This isn't just a regurgitation of anything you could find in Men's Health. It's new information.

I've definitely noticed that since the release of Apple Music they have become increasing passive aggressive about local music collections. Losing cover images, somehow classifying songs from the same album/artist into many different artists or albums in lists, poorly syncing music playlists by creating new ones with a "1" appended to it leading my playlist of "workout" to duplicate to "workout 1" and then "workout 1 1" and then "workout 1 1 1" as I add or remove tracks.

We'll see if new leadership learns the same lesson

We'll see if new leadership is capable of learning any lesson at all

I kind of wonder whether Tesla, a company making cars with GPS, microphones and video cameras embedded in it is also regularly contacted by crime agencies.

Rich people love to distinguish between old and new rich. Am I supposed to somehow be impressed by this? Old rich just use their money for pleasure and status like new rich do, they just have different more obtuse ways to do it.

I think it's definitely a spectrum. You read the article and thing "yes I also get sad and somewhat defensive when I am laid off, broken up with or not hired." But just feeling those narcissist feelings for a moment is much different than it be out of control, or causing you to binge drink or yell at your partner etc etc.

Synths I was building synthesizers for a time, most of them used chips from old computers like Commodore 64 or some FM chip from an old PC audio card that I can't quite remember. I haven't had time for that in a long while.

Coffee I guess some things around coffee and espresso machines specifically. Depth-wise I had rebuilt some commercial machines but also just being in the forum and seeing other people's rebuilds. I wrote some software for a prosumer espresso machine that had it operating with a PID and was activating / deactivating and even had a super simple API with an iOS app (That was never submitted to the store). One day I'd like to get access to some specific old 80s-90s espresso machine that I could rework and upgrade with different stuff but not so much on the horizon due to rareness.

Plants I have a few hundred succulent plants of various types. Beyond collecting, attending meetups etc I've also grown from seed, grafted plants etc as well which is fun but I have limited space. I think one of the major things in the "scene" is to actually visit places like Mexico or Madagascar (random examples) in remote areas that have plants growing naturally. One day maybe I will have adequate space to do a lot more breeding and growing, there are some people in SF who are at the meetups who are a lot more into it (some professionally) doing cross breeding and all sorts of things or have encyclopedic knowledge.

AI images Very superficial but AI image generation is really interesting to me. Does playing around and joining subreddits count? My knowledge doesn't pass muster on this one lol

You're right it sounds like he's a real nice guy and sitting on 3.36 billion dollars for a decade sounds like time served to me. I just can't get behind the concept of "Why did they arrest me for X when there is something wrong happening over there?" It just doesn't work that way, there are plenty of things happening ant the same time and you're just making some weird assumption that the IRS bitcoin task force could have been some completely different department chasing a completely different crime.
