In the 90s in my first business I did support at home for people who thought they could get unpaid support from their friends, neighbours and neighbourhood kids. We were expensive and never lacked clients who had gotten unpaid support which had only made things worse.

As far as I know in the Netherlands you get aside or stop when you see the strobe and hear the siren, to let an emergency vehicle pass, it is also allowed to run a red light.

I've found some companies who recruit from the trenches are led from the front, meaning the management promotes people who are skilled to management positions.

Others promote the weak developers.

Personally I find silversearcher (ag) faster, and reinventing standard commandline tools with a collection of other tools is often slower.

One liner shell commands often turn complicated quickly.
