Second point is, global variables are not cleared by the garbage collector. So if you continuously add more and more global variables (which are not of future use), it will cause a memory leak.

This. Might not be hip and trendy, but we've been using this stack (just with React on the frontend) and it's probably the best that I've ever worked with.
Anyone who knows Java/Kotlin will have experience with Spring Boot so it's easy to find good people. The whole platform is as mature as it gets at this point and the docs/questions cover pretty much everything.
It's really easy to get started when working on smaller projects, but you can also easily scale and integrate loads of other technologies if/when you need to. You might not need a complex caching layer, monitoring, metrics etc when you're starting out, but you know you can add it in if needed.
And I just have a Github webhook run to rebuild the site whenever a push to the rep. Works perfectly and you can't get much simpler.

What stack are you using behind the scenes to power the search? Are you storing each webpage and then doing full-text search or are you trying to pick out keywords from the resources and then match that way?
It's maybe not perfect, but definitely a lot better than 'Reactjs'. You just have to look at this topic - how many people just say React vs ReactJs. Besides Google seems to know that I'm wanting the JS framework so hopefully its filtering out some of the other unrelated 'React' stuff.

Not sure why I would pay for this app. You can do pretty much the same within a simple Google search e.g "5 feet in inches"

Nope it's been around for quite some time. 2D plotting started way back in 2011 apparently, not sure when they added the 3D capabilities.

I don't get it. The whole concept only works if there are people who have deliberately installed the free version so that they actually get the notifications. Seems like a whole lot of work and £3.99 for a very small chance of anyone actually noticing.

I've thought about deleting as well, but then I realised that it can't hurt to just have it sitting there so people can connect if they feel the need.
I update mine every so often, never reply to any recruiters and connect with a few colleagues I know who use it religiously. Best way to use it in my opinion.
I don't see this as much of an issue personally. I don't ever store any identifying information in urls, so it's more of a convenience to have the logos for easy navigation.
I get that they say that everything is encrypted, but really it could be a lot worse. I definitely won't be switching password managers just because of this like some people are saying.
After I switched over from Eclipse to Intellij I think at least the IDE tooling is pretty much equals nowadays. I used Resharper in VS so in many ways you are using the same thing.
As others have said the open source community for Java is still leaps ahead of C#. It's not often you find a library which doesn't have a Java connector/implementation. For C# on the other hand you tend to be much more limited in your options.
I guess this used to be a lot due to the platform dependence of C# (and probably still is). Hopefully .Net Core can help with that, but it's not ready for prime time yet IMO.

How have I not known about this before!? Sluggish Firefox performance with uBlock has been annoying me for ages and the horrible ads on Chrome are unbearable. Brave has just become my new browser on Android.
