Lol.

Do you think todays aircraft are not designed with the idea that the engine can fail?

And if you have unreliable components do you think redundancy is going to save you?

And lets be real - there already exist a aerospace arena where you have a higher number of CAT-events - it's called the military. And they deal with it by having a parachute for each passenger..

No - in effect building jet-engines (that are commercially viable i.e. fuel and efficeny) is not a easy to disrupt business. And the cost of entering it would be - high. And the benefit, well less obvious.

Back from my old overclocking days - its heat that kills life. And if you keep that under control (what ages is the heatpaste, replace it ever so often) i very much doubt you'll have any life issues from the cpu itself.

Bearings in fans, caps etc. are also stuff that you need to keep an eye on.

I just replaced a i5-660 thats been powered on since 2010 24/7, heatpaste was fucked so it crashed during heavy loads :)

Ah okay 150w is not _that_ bad - more than a rpi for sure but still :)

And another cpu+chipset is always going to eat som Watts just by existing.

I've recently upgraded my ageing X8SIL Supermicro with an i5 to a X10 Sm board with a 2960 V4 14core Xeon... I was expecting a horrible power situation but it's less than 100w with a handful of spinning disks etc.

I see lots of people complaining on power with their re-used ProLiant and others etc. Is it the throttling or bios settings that messes with the idle power?

Or are you just running it at 100% and my low usage is what saves my electricity bill?

Xfce is great 6 months ago

XFCE is x11 only which might alleviate some Wayland bugs with nvidia.

Yeah i feel like the other answers tries to gaslight me and downvoting to hide the ugly truth! :)

Would you say modern (i.e. <10 years) are properly insulated and built or are there still... shortcuts?

It is weird, especially since Germany usually is quite a bit cheaper when it comes to tools, construction materiel etc. compared to Sweden.

Hrm. It might be cheaper than in Germany but its not cheap in Sweden except for the most nordic parts (hydro).

South Sweden - i think the prices are more on par with germany.

UK houses are really interesting.. Single-glass windows, poor insulation etc. And plumbing on the OUTSIDE(!) :)

Are the boilers typically connected to water-radiators?.. I assume so based on the word "boiler".

There are heatpumps that are used to heat water so it would be a slot in replacement..

I loved my N9. But i'm somewhat hesitant on preordering that one. I need wireless charging.. And i still dont really get if Android-apps actually work or not, i.e. swedish Bank-Id/Swish etc.

You should probably figure out why - unless you are ok with nobody liking you. If _everyone_ finds you annoying or difficult being around, you most like are annoying and difficult to deal with.

How you go about figuring what bugs people is perhaps the hard part.

Slackware-current is pretty current. And sbopkg has quite a lot of packages. I run it on my homeserver (and has been for the last..10-15? years or so). Since everything that I host uses docker its easy as pie to keep it running.

ZFS via ZoL etc.

As a daily driver i use PopOs! which is very nice since the've packaged nvidiadrivers etc. and I mainly use it to play games.

I've hosted my own data for twenty something years - and bitrot occurs but it is basically caused by two things.

1) Randomness <- this is rare 2) HW-failures <- much more common

So if you catch hw-failures early you can live a long life with very little bitrot... Little =! none so zfs is really great.

Or you know - the myriad of world changing inventions, Nobel prize, insane amount of popular music, musicians and producers.

But yeah keep focusing on skincolor :)

My point being - i might agree with SDs migration policy and not much else. I might agree on Ms taxcuts etc. etc. But I still have to pick and chose the lesser evil.

Maybe 8 parties narrows the lesser evil down a bit.. But they all end up in coalition anyway so I'm pretty sure i get the same amount of evil as in a 2-party system.
