article is written in absolutes (talking about public transit and traffic in general) but happily ignores the fact that there is a world outside of america. maybe looking at places that are better commute-wise than sf despite being a lot poorer would be a start?
i kind of wonder how did we get to this point. technologically speaking it's a disaster - terrible slow and insecure language as a platform for bad practices and codr base. i guess the answer is that technical excellence.is absolutely secondary to other concerns, but it's a concerning view.
please stop saying global when you mean developed world. global means available everywhere, netflix is in 50 countries. in south africa for example a lot of movies are plain impossible to get legally in any format. maybe internationally is a better word?
a version of pypy that handles enough introspection for logging to work, not e.g. dynamically modifying locals. it's not done because i have more important things to do in my free time essentially. as i said, if i can justify a week of paid time to do that, i would make logging fast.
hippyvm as it is is indeed quite useless. it's faster than php7 on par with hhvm but it needs funding to get somewhere where you can actuaply run wordpress on it
thise initiatives tend to be winner takes all. i think i make like 3usd per week there
author here. we do sell commercial support for pypy and python performance problems at baroquesoftware.com. let's say it has not been a spectacular success so far and it's not enough to fund someone to do more boring infrastructure stuff for pypy like buildbot maintenance. one commercial thing we're working on is vmprof, which is a multi vm profiler and we plan on selling it as a service to your existing infrastructure. yes, pypy.org runs crowdfunding. success is moderate at best
that problem is fixable within a week or developer time. I'm very skeptical i can actually find someone to even pay for that week. feel free to prove me wrong
