Technically, yes you can. But do you really have the time to sit down to understand a piece of software enough to know if it's doing anything nefarious?
The email thing is probably a privacy requirement. Email isn't encrypted meaning your email provider (and the EMR's) can fully read the contents of said email.

To be fair to your last paragraph, you're less annoyed at EVs than at new cars in general. All new cars are trending towards this, with a few stragglers for the models that haven't been refreshed in a while.
Apple doesn't patch every security hole in older iOS versions. I don't know what the criteria is, but my guess is if it's a major security hole, or an easily backported one, they'll do it, but if it's super minor or not backportable, they won't.
It's all well and good to say "oh you can just install a custom ROM". But you (and many here) can do that. Because you're technically inclined. But the vast majority have users have no idea what the hell you're talking about. They barely know what a security update is or what version of Android they're using, let alone being able to find, choose, and install a ROM.
Can we just choose to stop suggesting it as a legitimate solution cause outside of this bubble, it absolutely is not.
They're not charging you, the user that 30%. They're charging the developer. Yes that does trickle down to you in the developer's pricing, but, in this instance, a phone no longer receiving security updates is not an inferior product from the point of view of the transaction in question.
You can't seriously give Apple shit for this and at the same time praise Google. iPhones have, pretty consistently since the 5 or so, received 5 or 6 years worth of OS updates since the phone's release whereas with Android phones you'll receive 2. Only after years of complaining is Google finally promising to support it for longer. And that doesn't cover Samsung, etc...
I have an 8 plus and the only reason I'm gonna buy the 15 this year is because they're no longer supporting it. 6 years of support for a phone is pretty damn good.

My i7 2700k is still my Plex server/sometimes gaming rig (mostly game on the switch nowadays). With a 6650xt I was playing Spiderman at 1440p pretty well. I'll update it someday but I honestly don't really have a need to.
There is actually. North America has 2 or 3 large interconnects that are basically large power grids. Two places are separate: Texas and Quebec. While Quebec has a decent amount of connections to the rest of the continent and is generally well managed, Texas has one inadequate connection. Hence why it goes down at the hint of bad weather

Yeah. The back camera sits behind the screen whereas the front one pokes through it. I wouldn't be surprised if they were fairly even in terms of thickness.

Vista was a necessary evil on Microsoft's end. While yes some things weren't great (Aero), the main issue was always drivers.
Microsoft had to switch the ways drivers work for some very necessary security reasons. This led to many hardware manufacturers just not making new drivers or slapping together the shitiest thing and hoping it worked. Took a few years but eventually everyone had new hardware (with decent compatible drivers), at which point 7 came out which is basically Vista with a new skin.
Hell, at the end its life an up to date Vista was actually pretty decent.
As much as there's somewhat of a point where a "standard, no vendor lock-in" messaging system is desirable, (RCS or otherwise), Google is the last company that should be giving anyone any sort of shit about messaging.
I have one. It's a RWD car and the front wheels can turn so much that instead of turning, the car will actually start to drag the front wheels unless you're going really slow.

They also seem to be slowly phasing it out. Internally it's utf8mb3 and utf8 is just an alias. The idea is to eventually make utf8 an alias to utf8mb4.
I'm fairly certain that (technically) nothing's stopping you from doing so. However, there are so many libraries/clients/etc... that do not allow it that it would be almost impossible to patch them all. Adding a new method and having libraries add it and support it properly would be better.

We wanted to do the same thing, but still keep it in the DB as triggers. For every change we store both the DB user making the change and the application user. In postgres (and mysql) you can set variables in your transaction and then reference them from your trigger. This way we can capture when things change via the application and on the rare occasion where we need to make manual updates.
One aspect of the time element is not "this much time has past" but rather "the subjects have had enough exposures to the virus". For some viruses, like HIV, this may take a long time to accomplish. But for COVID, in the middle of a pandemic, it doesn't take that long to accomplish.
