YES! I mean a man can dream... I love windows software like "xyplorer", an ideal explorer replacement, "notepad++" for everything text-related and "FSViewer" for displaying all pictures, all portable, all heavily customizable. But personally, I think microsoft is not interested in it's users. It all about control of it's users and making money off them. MS has no intention of changing that. Please, make the switch to linux and own your OS!
I use restic, too, and I am very pleased with it, although I run it on windows, which works, but isn't perfect. So, you use it regularly?

I love XYPlorer, it's my favorite program and I use it every day.
I personally like "FSViewer" way more. It's customizable, portable and free. It was my favorite software, which was replaced by "XYPlorer", which is a fileExplorer alternative.

Exactly my experience:
1. ask a question isolating and narrowing down my issue as good as I can
2. marked as a duplicate providing a link with an issue, which is loosely related, but does not solve my problem
3. start explaining / defending in comments why question is not a dupe
4. stays marked as dupe
5. give up and feel disappointed for the time and effort investment
And here I am: still using my first receiver ever, an Onkyo. It's still runs great after being in use for over twenty(!) years. My Philips CD player won't open the tray and my Aiwa Cassette deck won't play any cassette, but my Onkyo is still kicking. Maybe the models from the recent years don't have the quality as it used to be.
By the way, I just checked the backplate and it's an Onkyo TX-9031 RDS receiver from 1993 - time just flies ...
I'm on Windows and hated the File-Explorer for years: it always resets the view (even if you told it to use your standard view for all folders) and has terrible defaults.
I tried many alternatives, then finally found XYplorer. It is so easy to use, well structured, but when needed it is also a power house full of soo many tools you otherwise need another app for. Really loving it and many kudos to the only(?) developer from Germany who constantly improves it.

A few years ago a colleague of mine showed me HN. It was like a new world was opened to me. That may sound exaggerated, but it really felt great to always read about top stories and innovative project here first.
In that time - when android was young - I made a little app for generating passwords. I put it in the play store as an purchasable app without any marketing what so ever. It got no downloads so I stated that in another HN thread and some HN stranger bought the app and gave it a 5-star review, just to help me out! That made me really happy and grateful, I won't forget that, thank you, HN folks!
Besides the file size restriction of 1.4 MB, I agree 100% with the requirements for good OS software. Portability and ad/junk-free is most important.
One simple trick I used when in the same situation, was to train myself to block all work-related thoughts. - "Stop! Does it help my thinking of work? No. Then stop." In the beginning you have to learn that you are actually thinking of work right now, so to adopt a pattern of blocking. Later, it gets easier.
