For me it's the opposite. I moved from Denmark to the US, and I pay around $400 in health insurance premiums (health, eye, and dental) for a whole family. In Denmark, only health is covered, so for eye and dental many go out-of-country to get it cheap.
The US is much cheaper for all health insurances, except if your poor. Obama tried to fix that, but made it worse and more expensive for everyone (socialism).
But a "kanelsnegl" is an everyday pastry in Denmark.

As a very long time Android user (since HTC Hero), I've recently switched to the IPhone for the exact same reason. I concur! There's really no debate whether it's carbs or not, rather, what kind of carbs. We're starting to see that fructose containing carbs, e.g. Sucrose, HFCS, etc. Are those that in the long run sets one up for metabolic syndrome and and the inevitable accompanying diabetes.
It also explains why cultures consuming relative large amounts of carbs in the form starch/glucose haven't had the issues that we're currently experiencing.
Every one is better off in Texas compared to NYC financially. Apples to apples. But it's true, if you insist on the Euro experience, you'll have to pay for it...
