Yeah, it's interesting that it has become OK to say these things in the open. In the past, any doubting of MS was smacked down by simply pointing at Windows and Office, as well as MS's cash pile and market cap. It has been sort of painful seeing their series of sizeable blunders treated with something akin to a shrug, but I guess those chickens are finally coming home to roost.

As I have said elsewhere, I think Craigslist are within their rights here, but the situation still sucks. People want to browse apartment listings on a map, and Craigslist won't let us.

MySpace's problems are due to their user base defecting en masse, I don't think their ad strategy was really a factor. Could be wrong, though.

The suit is understandable, but I wish craigslist would get over themselves already and allow users to look at listings on a map. That's all anyone really wants here, and this is getting a bit ridiculous.

This is great, I spent hours dicking around with CSS sprites for back/forward arrows last week. It was a pretty frustrating waste of time. Every time I wanted the element to be wider I had to go back and redo the sprites. I guess I'd still have to do that here, but it takes away a lot of the pain.

This strikes me as good advice, but it also matches a lot of the advice I have gleaned over the years, so it may just be my bias talking. Getting rid of mush-mouthed "in my opinion" stuff and cliche phrases, moving from the general to the specific, all good advice.

That phrase refers to LisaB, not Ballmer.

It's weird to me that aQuantive is apparently not viewed as a massive failure for MS, even though they paid billions in cash for it and it's now worthless. But not only that, it was supposed to make them more competitive in a big market and didn't do that at all. So from a lay perspective it seems like that should be a disaster for Ballmer and probably others at MS, but it's being met with an attitude of "yep, that happened, and it doesn't really mean anything".

That's kind of how I feel, I don't think there's anything wrong with it but it does seem weirdly specific. It makes me wonder if other industries with poorly-represented population groups have such specific programs.

Surely the demographics of other fields need to be shaken up as well as tech. Nursing comes to mind.

For what it's worth, I hadn't seen anyone make a big deal about this, or even remark upon it, until The Atlantic did. So, I'm not too sure about the narrative of "When will everyone finally accept this?!"

I actually did register on Grubwithus after seeing it recommended in the original thread.

It appears there is an event in my town on Thursday, and it shows a few people who will be attending. To reserve a seat, I have to pay $22. Where is the event? It doesn't say, except that the location is "near Portland" and will be revealed "soon". What will we be eating? It doesn't say.

I dunno about you guys but that much info is not exactly enough for me to plunk down $22. "Near Portland" is especially ominous, that could be anywhere in a 50 mile radius.

Who knows, maybe I am using it wrong.
