Just don't make my mistake of trying to contribute on your own. Find a mentor

Any suggestions on how to find a mentor to help contributing to open source? I've been self-teaching for ~8months and just created a Github account with the desire to push.

I've come across many news articles and videos reminding viewers that unless action is taken, the whole world will be affected, however, none touch on the places that will weather the crisis best. Personally, I don't want to plant roots in a location that is at risk of becoming unhabitable within the next ~30-50 years.

What about international flights? Are airports in SK still closed? I'm pretty sure they will have to limit traffic into and out of the country despite easing social distancing.

Otherwise, won't there be a new wave of infections when they let 'outsiders' back in from places where the virus is still running rampant?

Show who is talking currently. If there are more than 2 people in a convo it would be nice to have a visual of everyone there and who is talking when.

Also this would be an interesting feature for people who do podcasts and want to involve their listeners, however, there should be a way to limit or a way for the owner of the channel to grant privileges to when people can talk so not everyone jumps in at once.

Twitter's UI is pretty bad at being able to filter for good content and I always feel like I'm missing out on popular threads because they are buried somewhere in my feed.

I'm probably not the most eco-conscious person out there but I have taken some small steps to reduce my carbon footprint. These are not exactly products or services but just some lifestyle changes I've adopted:

1) Re-usable bags and more reusable bags! I have almost eliminated use of single-use plastic bags. I always carry my backpack around and keep a tote bag in it in case I pop into the convenience store for groceries. The same logic applies when I go to the supermarket for weekly shopping.

2) The same goes for plastic bottles (no more buying plastic water bottles). I always take my thermus everywhere now.

3) I don't have a car but I'm still mindful of taking taxis over public transport. Of course this doesn't mean I'll never take a taxi but if I can take the metro or a bus, I try to use that option more.

4) I haven't done this yet but I'm planning to experiment with solar panels. I live in a hot climate (we get the sun 300+ days here) so using solar panels to store energy to power small items like lamps might be a good way to save energy.

Would be interesting to see what other little hacks the community is using.

This is one point the article forgot (or didn't catch) to touch upon. I would like to go buy items in-store but I always hesitate to make the purchase because I know that same item will likely be significantly cheaper somewhere online. Of course, when I go online to find that product, I get distracted by the score of other options available leading to further indecision.

That is what I thought as well. People who pay a handsome sum for an online course are not going to let their money go to waste. Something about paying up simply ensures that you turn up and actually attend/finish a course.

Unfortunately, I don't think degree requirements are going to go away anytime soon for immigration purposes. Just imagine the backlash in the US/EU if the voting public finds out that people without degrees can now move to their countries. Many will link his to a mass-movement of unskilled and unwanted labor as opposed to talented and hardworking individuals.

The trades are hard on the body. Some trades are hazardous. An injury or medical problem that would be a hassle for someone with an office job can be career-ending for people in the trades.

Very true. I know a Uber driver who used to install and repair ACs. Unfortunately, one day, he had a mishap leading to a serious back injury. He was told he couldn't carry on in this line of work. He had no other skills or means to acquire a college-degree with a family to support. The only option he saw best fit was to drive a taxi.

I desperately want a Revolut account. I've been following them for the past year and a half and they still only support EU countries.

They keep mentioning that they will launch for citizens of non-EU countries but I've yet to see it happen. Does anyone know more about this?

To play devil's advocate, a lot of older people in Asian, Latin, and Middle Eastern societies don't end up in retirement homes.

Yes, they exist, but it's culturally expected for children to take care of their parents in old age (just like the parents took care of the kids when they were young). Sure it doesn't make the quality of your last decades in life much better but I think at least it'd involve less crippling loneliness.

I try to remind myself that I'm still young-ish and have plenty of time but some days it's too rough.

I've seen everyone around me at least go through one loving relationship. I've never had someone who cared for me. When I look back at my relationships, none of them actually cared for me. Hell, even my own mother was abusive and told me she wished I was never born.

I know I don't need someone to complete me but I'm only human.

Reading all these replies as a fellow-29 year old with a shit decade of loneliness, mistakes, and career in the crapper gives me hope.

I'm hitting 30 next month. I'm going to continue on my journey of learning, working remotely, traveling, and hopefully meeting a woman who loves me.

There's no traditional blog or long-form content. The site is literally a compilation of books. Though it's useful, useful I don't see how users will find it online organically at least.

Depending on where he or she is working from, you don't need a ~SF Bay Area to enjoy the same quality (if not better) of life.
