Domains that fall under the jurisdiction of the US? The domains themselves not the websites they point to? Everything under .games is controlled by the US government, the German government gets .games.de instead. To be fair it should be .games.us and .games.de (or .spiele.de)

Even gTLDs using other languages, like .kaufen, are under US jurisdiction. A German website selling to German customers using a .kaufen domain is forced to abide by US law as well as German law or loses the domain. Using a .de domain they would only have to abide by German law. That's unfair that the US government gets to stick its grubby fingers into every TLD that isn't a country code.

I am disappointed that icannt.org is taken and is not an alternative root.

Edit: I've been rate limited because of this comment, apparently. Account burned - will make a new one. Dang says below it's because of flagged comments but I don't see many flagged comments in my history.

This could be a convincing argument 70 years ago but we have other options now - mostly batteries and renewables.

"But what about the cobalt mines?" - that damage is limited in both space and time

you might have more success by thinking about things that are actually happening or about to happen instead of speculating so far.

We already have a great wall of Europe, it's implemented on the US side of the ocean by websites that are afraid to somehow get in GDPR trouble or (more likely) want to put pressure to repeal GDPR.

Did you know you can do that, by the way? You can block your website in Bumfuckistan citing bill AB1234 and if your site is big enough it puts pressure to repeal that bill no matter what it's about.

Antimemetics 23 days ago

I heard the book has a cheesy ending while the original SCP version leaves it open.

My opinion is that SCP-3125 is something like game theory, or death anxiety, or knowing the most effective way to make money (which is applied game theory), that if everyone thinks about it too much, destroys the world.

These are your type 4 antimemes. Death anxiety leads to the rational conclusion that nothing is worth doing so you might as well just die immediately, and this takes the idea with it. (Healthy humans have developed irrational ways to suppress this.) (Particularly unhealthy humans might also realize that society and the human race don't matter, or that other humans existing are suffering for no benefit.) Perfect knowledge of game theory leads to a cut-throat world where not much survives, again taking most of the idea with it, as well as every idea that's not part of the optimal winning strategy.
