Its an honest question, I would love an arm based laptop running NixOS that is competitive with the upcoming M5 Pro's but I dont see it anywhere.

Hard agree. The first-past-the-post single representative election system that is the foundation of the two party system in the US is breaking the country. It encourages politics where the current winner has no reason nor expectation of compromising on anything; now is their time and they are justified in breaking everything the previous winners did. It encourages politicians to act like babies, not grownups.

Thank you, but I rather not inject a tool that hasn't been updated in 6 years into my build chain. Thats how we do things in the Javascript world and frankly it sucks.

I dont think this is a problem anymore in todays world of LSPs and auto formatters. I almost never have to type "end" in Elixir for instance, it is always autocompleted for me.

No need for braces. Just add "end" for marking block ending to match the already block starting keyword ":".

Neovim + ruff lsp. I have gone through many formatters to try and get this better, but it is always worse than any other language where whitespace is not semantic.

The number one thing I wish was addressed in future version of Python is the semantically significant whitespace.

Python is absolutely the worst language to work in with respect to code formatters. In any other language I can write my code, pressing enter or skipping enter however I want, and then the auto formatter just fixes it and makes it look like normal code. But in python, a forgotten space or an extra space, and it just gives up.

It wouldn't even take much, just add a "end" keyword and the LSP's could just take care of the rest.

GIL and JIT are nice, but please give me end.

I have not had that problem. Only thing I have to do when I update Nix after a MacOS update is to move /etc/shells to something like /etc/shells.old

How doesnt it play well one MacOS? I've been using Nix Home Manager + Nix Darwin as my package manager, and Direnv + Nix Shell for developer environments; and havent had any problems (yet). Is there something I should be aware of?

Agree about the learning curve; but I am going to experience onboarding my coworkers onto using Nix only for developer environments over the next months; I feel the curve is not quite that steep for that limited use case.

The steps are understood well enough to instruct machines to do it, even if the output is to complex for us to comprehend it completely. Not so with thought, intelligence, consciousness, etc.

Statistical optimization is a known process; one where we understand every step, and can therefore instruct machines on how to perform it. Cognitive reasoning is still today not understood (in the Von Neumann sense) by anyone.

Im a beginner and am working through getting Nix + Home Manager + Darwin working. Currently I am only setting it up on a MacOS vm's so I can nuke everything, but the end goal is to install it on my host system and manage everything I can with it, including home-brew.

Yes, home-manager + darwin is added complexity that is making this harder for me; when I am encountering problems I am not always clear on where in the three systems it lies. But I probably wouldn't be journeying into Nix if it wasn't for home-manager + darwin; what I want is managing my workstation and setting up ad-hoc development environments, not configure servers.

Agree. I even gave up on keeping the christmas light IoT device on the other network, because the whole point was to be able to control the lights with the phone, and having to switch my phone between networks was just too much.

What needs to happen here is that my master devices (my phone, my laptop) need to be able to stay connected to many networks at the same time, and then I have to be able to assign different apps to different networks.
