I can't help but think of that article yesterday about how we're avoiding the Big Problems (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8261098). It's crazy how much money and brain power people have invested in HFT which is essentially just turning time into money with no benefit to society. What could the human race have achieved if the same amount of effort was focused in other areas?

I reread the article with a little more care and as a result of special relativity the satellites "fall behind clocks on the ground by about 7 microseconds per day" and as a result of general relativity "each GPS satellite should get ahead of ground-based clocks by 45 microseconds per day". So that would mean if the ISS was orbiting at the same level as the GPS satellites the astronauts would age faster, but since the ISS is closer, they age slower.

Does this mean that the people living on the space station age faster than people on earth, or does this only affect the atomic clocks?

You could try doing some couch surfing in your area or rent a room in a shared apartment. Living together with other people is a great way to make lasting relationships. There is the chance that you wont 'click', but then you can just move to another place.

If I ever get to lead a software team I will make part of our product open source and then ask potential new hires to complete a real task on that codebase. I think that would be the most realistic display of their coding ability and quality and at the same time they could get an idea of how the company manages and reviews code.
