There is such a thing as over stimulation. I'm rather sensitive to stimulation and become uncomfortable quite quickly around bright lights, strong smells, loud films, large grouos if people, ect. The flush of dopamine causes too much stimulation and we sensitive souls become too aroused, our thoughts become too loud and overlap each other and we become confused, dissoriented and function poorly. It's quite uncomfortable.

In the uk its a non thing. 50% of my friends are atheists. Its such a non issue that it hardly ever comes up. The first time i had a problem is when i couldnt have a church wedding because I couldnt morally profess a belief in a christian god. My mum in law was very very unhappy. In fact ive felt socially threatened amongst my developer friends when I have been inable to say that I am atheist (I think in a certain sense God is the world and in another sense it also silly to make a claim for or against god, since I believe its impossible to say anything for certain). That opinion gets me ridiculed!

I think its much more likely it was an accademic working around this area in the years leading up to bitcoin. Staying anonymous is an extremely clever and mature thing to do, I'd say whoever it is is 30 years old +. Possibly someone notable in the field but I'd say more likely not, it's a radical idea, unconventional thinkers have a hard time in academia in general. So my wild unfounded guess is: someone who did a phd in something similar, worked within a university for a while, left for the corporate world. Got bored and couldnt stop thinking about the ideas from his phd. Ruminated for 1 - 10 years and finally put pen to paper.

I think some believers see a steady state universe. Life then becomes a boltzman brain. But I think panspermia is likely a thing and I think life naturally arises in open dissipative systems. Get a rock, water, and a heat source and wait a few million years...

I have the same thing. Preople look at me like i'm crazy and tell me that I should be careful not to hurt myself. I make a half hearted effort yo poiny them in the direction of some studies like the above, but mostly people arent smart/knowledgable enough to understand.

I agree. I think I could have done my degree in a year. Didnt go to any lectures, do any coursework or workshops, learnt the material in a month before the exams. Got 1st class marks (although pulled down to a 2.1 because i didnt do coursework). I used to think everyone could do this if they wanted and that the school/university system was absolutely terrible. Turns out, I'm very bright, who knew?

Point is: Most people are not like this, they need the structure, they need the help.

But its still all von neumann architecture. We need a clean break at the hardware level to really get somewhere on this imho. I think reservoir computing is the way to go, with a specially designed substrate on silicon acting as the reservoir. Thats where i will be investing if I get the chance.

I thought that two paths leading to a single path was equivalent to wave function collapse. When we percieve things as acting clasically, what has happened is that from our point of view, all those universes that are compatible with our current observations have collapsed into a single thing.

Its because new ideas are built from old ideas. And old ideas travel around the world from mind to mind. When it is time for a new idea to be born, the ideas from which it is constructed are readily available. That is to say: When the last piece of a new idea is distributed rapidly, lots of minds can simultaniously arrive at the same insight. The same new idea. That is why in the modern age, as information travels faster and further, people are having the same idea at the same time, more often.

I think I work with a clone of Sergey. He has somehow managed to convince his boss that he knows what he is doing. Every interaction with him is painful as he subconcsiously does everything in his power to discredit me and make himself look good.

Impulse over powers free will in the long term. Try starving yourself to death. Unless you are exceptional your will power will fail you. Ultimately you are not the master of desire. Desire is the master of you.

You are a tiny sliver of consciousness on top of a vast, powerful machine. That machine gives you ideas, manages your body, and dictates your desires. Using conscious will power to try to overcome innate points of equilibrium in the system that is you, is extremely difficult in most cases. And in some cases it is impossible.

I have also been late for a flight. And often very nearly late despite giving myself huge margins. Some people, like me, just have minds that have too much going on to keep track of. There is no dead space to organise things, its always moving, analysing roving. It just will not stfu. And so there is no breathing space to consider what is going on in the outside world. It's like trying to drive a car while eating pizza. You cant not eat pizza because its the most delicious thing in the world (thinking about stuff) but you must also drive (operate in the real world). Its bloody difficult being absent minded and we dont need you guys who have an easier time of things making us feel bad. Now your probably thinking, well I manage it, everyone else manages it. You are just lazy or self absorbed or both. No. Brains are different. I have a different brain that finds some things very difficult.

Or for that matter self driving cars. You could commute for 5 hours a day, spend 2 hours in the office and go home again. All while being productive. That greatly increases the commutable range. Then you have the prospect of self driving Motor homes, moving with the work becomes that much easier.

Yup, lots of ppl are very defensive about this! We are the farm workers looking at a prototype of a combine harvester. We will stop ourselves from believing it until its taken our job and then we will claim it was obvious all along. Ppl are emotional.

But some of us are very easily bored. Being trapped doing the same job for a few years is torture. So automating the stuff thats boring becomes very attractive. I cant imagine how unpleasant it will be if i have to write html and css for the rest of my life, automation cant come quickly enough. In fact I have a break between contracts coming up and i intend to monetise this technique.

The Darwinism/Lamarckism thing is wrapped up in politics. Darwinism is used as a justification of the social order. Might is right. The strong survive. Lamarckism has a more touchy feely feel to it. Not that Darwinism is fundamentally wrong! Its just that the nuances are ignored because of the politics.
