I have an someone at work who is currently in the process of applying for a greencard renewal (f48 I think). They sent out their application nearly a year ago now and are still waiting for the result.

Is this cause for concern? Should they hire an immigration lawyer? Is there a chance for them to be denied even though they've been here over a decade as a productive, law-abiding member of society?

The stress of trying to land a job is different than the stress of trying to meet a deadline at a job, no?

And Im not saying that meeting deadlines is the only stress, Im just saying that being stressed out about how you will provide for yourself is different than the stress of having to perform well at a job

Yeah how tragic, being mistaken for an Arab.

I really hope that the denizens of HN can rise above the need to make foolhardy generalizations (good or bad) about large swathes of people. Maybe save that for your reddit account.

Be careful about joining the ancient prayers, though, unless you know how to perform them, and have converted to Islam. Otherwise you'll really offend people.

Disagree with this, they'll likely be overjoyed that someone foreign shows positive interest in their religion.
