To me your goal should be a better payed role. I assume with your VHCOL that there are better jobs available. I would work on landing something better at big tech (FANG ideally).

Once you're there you can focus on your side projects or building your own SAAS etc.

You can work to increase your income by working towards a promotion or finding a new job. The other option is to reduce your outgoings. Who are you supporting and why are you supporting them? Why are you stuck living in a VHCOL?

Go to more parties, make more friends, do something big each summer.

I would be hesitant to recommend seriously pursuing cross-platform. Most serious applications generally run into scaling issues as they get more complicated and demands require more than the abstractions the cross-platform tool can provide.

All it takes is for once successful interview loop. There is really no downside to interviewing. The bar is high but manageable just keep practicing!

You will find the very high contract rates where the demand for talent is very high and the supply is low. Unfortunately it would appear the demand for IOS isn't too high or the supply is too high.

I would suggest re-skilling to something more in demand or searching for work where there is lot's of IOS jobs posted but no senior level talent.
