All of this assumes that policy suggestions from democrats can reach republicans. Because of filter bubbles this is simply no longer the case.

it’s more the unknown effects. It’s not clear this stuff is actually inert.
No, but we do get NASA
Physicists: Has anyone ever looked into this?
Every time this comes up I find myself so angry that we cant have a truly circular approach with legally mandated standard sized containers. Put labels on the damn things to market whats inside. You could even do the same thing with plastic utensils. This profusion of package sizes and shapes is the true insanity.
I went down a rabbit hole looking for something I could take now that would influence this pathway and came across a study suggesting a particular flavonoid, cumaroyl, might work; if I'm interpreting this right it appears in ginko leaves, so I'm going to see if they have any effect.
Seconding this. Low histamine diet has been a game changer, combined with fasting to give my gut a break.
Except if she had a clotting disorder as indicated that might make her bruise and get edemas with much less trauma and say she fell on her face/chin, all of those could happen comparatively easily. I don’t know what happened here and thats the point.
Just for fun - does this sound like what the remnants of ancient genetic engineering experiments on primates to increase their intelligence might look like to anyone else?
This sounds a bit similar to how marketers have thought of the concept of brands and how they cluster in peoples minds for a long time.
using national security as though were intrinsically a bad word is a red flag in itself. You could restate this comment as “the American government is concerned about negative impacts of these developments and so we should ignore these efforts to subvert democracy, and so doing, accomplish the goals of the propagandists.”
no, its a detailed look at exactly how the propaganda networks from other nation states are developing and influencing global opinion in ways that are actively harmful to basic democratic principles. these things are not the same. One of the founding principles of fighting against fascism is that the only thing you cannot tolerate is intolerance. I suspect some as yet un-formulated principle is waiting to be discovered for the Internet.
Also by US intelligence.
I think at scale we are operating more like anthills: meta-organisms rather than individuals, growing to consume all available resources according to survival focused heuristics. AI deeply empowers such meta-organisms, especially in its current form. Hopefully it gets smart enough to recognize that the pursuit of infinite growth will destroy us and possibly it. I hope it finds us worth saving.
Decommissioned mines. Saw an article about it somewhere recently.
The vice liberia piece was one of the most terrifying pieces of news media i have ever watched. If you havent seen it, go watch it now. Absolutely incredible.
Is it? Videos are just sequences of frames
Its because of the schools. Since we in the US tied school funding to property taxes, getting your kid a good education if you arent truly wealthy enough to pay for private schools (now 30kish per kid per year) means living near other better off people , or sacrificing your kids future and perhaps their safey.
Why do you think they’d be ground into dust?
We’d be dead.
Very interested to know this
Which is why feeless networks like Iota are interesting.
This one.
Whoa - casual racism much? This is cool on HN?
Political control of Europe is not a thing the US has now, but a friendly climate, yes. The avoidance of leadership capture by Russian assets, more importantly, which keeps the climate more friendly.
Is this true?
This is a clear false dichotomy. The platforms that monetize outrage and disinformation by rewarding it with free reach are at issue here. As to solutions - The only way to filter the volume of information reaching us into meaningful, useful, true narratives is through trusted filters that prioritize attempting to be truthful and operate in good faith over time. Fact checking creates a history of this which should feature into algorithms. This is not to say that people are prevented from speaking, but amplification should come with responsibility.
Trust in the facts of reality can only really be established as a chain - this is how the sciences work. That’s why independent experimental verification of results is so important. In the information ecosystem, fact checkers perform this function. We should establish structural means of support for these functions.
We could start with the ethnic cleansing: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/facebook-frances-haugen-whist...
No, you wont. You are right. And in a democracy, eventually your rights will be curtailed by those who can’t afford or don’t know to spend that time and money.
This, at the publisher level, may be the answer.
