Not sure I agree with you that DD-WRT is the de-facto open replacement for router firmware. DD-WRT is just a fork of an old version of OpenWRT (White Russian). OpenWRT is where all the innovation really happens. The OpenWRT developers also contribute back to the Linux wireless stack.

I believe DD-WRT also had a few GPL violations in the past. Not sure if they still do. Anyway, do agree with the consensus that none of this is really needed because we already have OpenWRT and OpenWRT runs on anything that you could possibly want :-)
