That 12 fps number is absolutely arbitrary. There is no threshold that changes between 11 and 12. This topic always seems to attract so many myths.
Even the difference between 110 and 120 fps is clearly visible for most. And while sensitivity may vary: I doubt that anyone could not be able to instantly see the difference between 30 and 60. How was this tested? Sure that the frames were being delivered?

I agree about the clients being key. Although there are now great clients for smartphones (eg Pocket casts). But a big factor probably also is that you can easily download them on your phone now and don't have to plug your mp3 player in.

And that's somewhat annoying. Even the big ones (This American life) have big ad segments. Some even multiple times per show and almost always spoken by the cast themselves. I feel there might quickly something like Adblock for Podcasts become relevant, with the ad timecodes collaborated and cut out.

Yes! The most valuable information is usually not the pure content but rather things that deviate from that. So contextual information, relationships between things, knowing what's important (the gist) and what's unclear. Especially the last part tends to be what at the end of the day gives new insights
