I'm surprised about the 266 MB of DICOM images, I've never had an MRI but my CT results are generally between 1-2GB (zipped) and I always assumed an MRI would have more data, guess I was wrong about that!

I don't touch my display on my MacBook and it's always yucky because of the finger oils on my keyboard, so the thought of having to use a special cloth to clean it always seemed like too much of a hassle for me compared to the glossy display. I did wonder if this improved ever since they added nano texture to the ipad pro, but sounds like fingerprints are still annoying.

For me it often still is.. at least when I'm working alone on something / no collaboration needed. Every time I try something else I revert back to this, although sometimes I do save the files, eventually.

Always reminds me of the time Apple introduces "Smart Shuffle" in iTunes in 2005 which "which lets the user change the “randomness” of shuffled songs".

If I check on monkeytype it's around 130wpm but as others have said it really depends on what you are typing.

(for what it's worth I learned to touch type on an old typewriter decades ago, however my wpm was much slower then as the typewriter would lock up if I typed too fast)

Yeah if possible get screened and when in doubt about something in/on your body please get it checked. I also had to suffer through chemo this year because of metastasis – had I checked sooner I might've gotten away by just having the surgery and no chemo. Last chemo was two months ago, still have side effects, mostly neuropathy. Compared to other patients I shared rooms with I still consider myself lucky but definitely an experience you want to try and avoid (unless you need it, of course). Now hoping my next CT is clean.

I can't comment on causes as I'm not a doctor, in my case all the known causes did not apply to me.

I loved Palm since my first, the IIIe SE and have had many of their other later devices too. I was even invited to the launch party of the Zire 71 with it's cool slide out mechanism! Oh and the Tungsten|T when it could finally play MP3s was very neat, and another sliding mechanism making it more compact. Ah memories, well back to my non-distinctive slab of glass.

I was also interested in the Sony CLIÉ's running PalmOS but never tried one. And of course the Psion's also seemed really cool but never landed its way in my hands.

I care a lot about my privacy and this was one of the main reasons I didn't want to use dating apps. When I clicked Safari it also opened an App Store sheet for Safari, which I thought was weird but probably done to keep it consistent with the other options (more like "see more details" before making the choice definitive/installing)

I only learned about vector after I had setup a new fluent-bit pipeline, and have to say there's a lot of stuff that looks interesting in vector and wish I had time to play with it earlier. Might still do it when I have some downtime, it looks very interesting and capable, could be fun to try on a new project.

There is no definitive way to answer your question. It depends entirely on your target audience and how much effort your company is willing to put towards support a, I will admit, likely minority. Some of us need to.

Yeah but only in evergreen browsers once they implement it.. plus now you are making the browser do more work compared to just having simple CSS files that don't have to do complicated things.

I feel like purists who write CSS by hand don't want this kind of stuff, because otherwise they'd have switched to one of thousands of preprocessors. And people who use preprocessors and/or elaborate styling systems that take care of this stuff already.

Fine I'll try despite having a painful hand right now, my WPM mention was not coding specific btw but I am always happy to help a throwaway account; I got "You can type 80 words per minute", and slightly more pain now.

The biggest thing that got me here is that it doesn't match my coding style and especially whitespace at line endings were annoying. Also I'm on the couch on my laptop, not behind proper desk.

My parents forced me to take typing lessons on typewriters in the 90s and I am thankful they did, of course that had some technical limitations in regard to speed but it definitely made me a great blind typist which is the main foundation for typing fast in my opinion.

Some years later in school I also had a typing class at some point and the teachers thought I cheated because of my high scores so I had to take the test again with multiple teachers hovering over my shoulder – I scored slightly higher then.

I'm usually around 120wpm, which I know is not even a great score amongst typist but it's more than enough for me. I couldn't play the game due to an injury right now unfortunately, but I did click through it and agree with others that I prefer practising words or sentences - plus the letters appearing on different spots on the screen is annoying to me because that's not how I type, so I'm not sure if this is really great for typing practice (for me, at least) – but it could be good at becoming faster at blind typing maybe?

Hm, I hadn't heard of NimbleOptions before and always used Ecto's embedded_schema for these types of things (as also mentioned in the article).

Looking at NimbleOptions based on this example I think I would prefer to stick to Ecto because I don't like the idea of putting the schema in a giant keyword list - but maybe soon I'll have a better play around with it myself, read the docs and see if there are better ways to use it.

I love working with Elixir and have done so successfully for the past 4 years at various companies, however I have been trying to find a new client for a while now and I'm getting close to the point of looking for other types of work because things are looking bleak. From what I can tell there are also way more people looking for Elixir work than available jobs, unfortunately.

In my 15+ years of software development in various languages Elixir has been the most enjoyable developer experience for me. So I guess I'll just have to think of a side project where I can apply it and do less fun stuff to earn bread.

For me Hinge proved most successful out of everything I tried, it gave me the most matches that actually resulted in real world dates and eventually to finding my current partner of almost 3 years now.

N.B. I only ever use free versions as I do not believe in paying for these apps so cannot speak to paid versions.

Unrelated but made me think of this anecdote; Many years ago I met a tech-savy captain who did have satellite internet on his ship, but it was incredibly expensive (not sure about current pricing), so he only used it briefly every now and then. To receive e-mails (and some other things) he had a server somewhere which fetches everything and then zips it up as compressed as possible and when online synced it to a local computer/server that's onboard.

It was pretty fun/interesting to see creative solutions like that to deal with very limited bandwidth in practice.

I have great memories of playing Jazz Jackrabbit 2 online multiplayer, if I'm not mistaken at some point the official game servers were killed and to still play online we had to patch it to connect to a server hosted by someone I only remember as being called Nimrod (I didn't remember that I knew this until I started writing my memories). I think he was from the UK.

I met a friend by being in a "clan" in JJ2 who kind of introduced me to caring about music, and I went to my first concert with. We are no longer in touch, but I do have one pen pal friend from that "clan" from another country who I still exchange birthday/christmas cards and gifts with for over 23 years now (and occasional messages throughout the year).

Having said all that, I haven't played the game in years though. I remember the excitement over Jazz Jackrabbit 3D that I believe never saw the day of light, or well I vaguely remember there being a playable demo. Not sure, I could probably quickly search for it online but I'll leave that to you, the reader.
