Here’s my advice. If you still like working with data then you should look into consulting where you get to work on different projects across different domains. You have to build up your toolkits even within data science. Mastering something like GIS takes awhile and same goes for time-series/finance. And only way to do this is through consulting gigs.

I think it’s 2011 when NATO flipped on Libya. That’s the exact moment Putin stopped being friendly to the West.
I agree 100%.
Ukraine deserves all the money that will go toward building back their economy when they finally win this war.
This is my argument too. History teaches us it’s never the people. It’s that one bad apple.
Solution is simple: force Russia to demilitarize. Put sanctions on them until they do.
This is it. Ironic considering that EU/US is unwilling to fight a war that will benefit them the most. Ukraine is fighting this war for their country but they are also fighting to save the world from a very possible WWIII.
I am sorry it came across that way but this is how wars start. Countries first have excuses to build up arms. Same reason why I would never want Japan to build up arms. It is NOT different this time. And Russia has shown that. It’s never the people. It takes just ONE bad apple to start it all back up.
And by the way, I did educate myself. Educated myself quite a bit on WWI and WWII.
Elementary Number Theory by David Burton. I started reading this book in 8th grade to get a bit better at math competitions. Oh boy did it open my eyes.
As an adult, it’s Shannon’s The Mathematical Theory of Communication. I read it at least once a year. It’s the most intellectually powerful paper I’ve ever read.
This is a conspiracy theory. Please stop.
I once took a job that I regretted taking on the very first day. I contemplated quitting that same day but stuck it out for many years thereafter. Turns out staying in that job WAS the career ending mistake. It killed my career, family life and even health. It takes a lot of effort to recover from these career mistakes even if you have spectacular resume and background. Number one rule in avoiding this is to never take such a job in the first place.
Bring back the old school Mathematica startup chime!

To be fair that is 99% of the population.
I’ve been coming here from the beginning. Off and on. Different handles because I rarely saved my passwords. I absolutely appreciate all the gem comments especially from insiders. This is the only place that reminds me of 90s newsgroups.
I want to especially thank Dang for keeping this place consistent.
When I drove across the country in my early 20s what struck me the most was that we have nearly unlimited undeveloped land. I believe we are close to a tipping point in this country, with WFH becoming even more widely accepted, and push for more energy efficient homes, that we will see significant single home developments across rural areas over the next decade. Whether that benefits homebuyers or developers/corporations will be up to regulations and incentives.
This is such a bad advice. Buying an index is what they want you to do. They want you to buy and hold until you retire. Do you not see the problem with that logic?
Why Netflix Will Continue to Flourish.
They make contents others will not make. They will be the number one destination for entertainments for a very long time because they are willing to bring Hollywood production value to every corner of the globe. I have no doubts.
I think a lot of people suffer from myopic pov when they’re looking at these global enterprises. The game has dramatically changed in the last five years.
I would really like to see an M1 Max Mac Mini. I’ve been holding out for March announcement.
I wasn’t aware they would make this open. It’s a great way to play around with toy digital currency implementation. There goes my plans for rest of weekend.
This is right to some extent. They can have distributed ledger in virtual sense.
What I don’t understand is why is this hitting them now? Those privacy features were turned on for awhile.
For example, PEG is nearly 3x for AMZN. At such size and scale, how are investors betting that Amazon will continue to out grow the rest of tech monopolies?
I see such a big disconnect between AMZN and GOOGL. Google is so much cheaper compared to Amazon. And this past quarter showed, Google is executing at a much better pace and quality.
I wrote this in another FB thread but they need to own e-commerce vertical: Stripe and Shopify. Others here mentioned opening up their data centers too.
Is it really insane? Facebook knows how to optimize pytorch and ML applications more than anyone. They can sell that on the market.
I will make it simple: they need to buy Stripe/Shopify. They really need to own e-commerce vertical.
Problem with Facebook is that they can’t acquire anyone due to their notoriety. They should have been able to use all the cash generated in the past five years to purchase a bunch of assets like Microsoft. At the end of the day, they have a bad branding problem. Need a fresh start with new management which we know is never going to happen.
In terms of investments, I like Google the most out of the monopoly techs. Microsoft is my least favorite because they’re just a fund of loosely related technologies at this point.
I do think there’s an opportunity for someone to homestead and incorporate modern technology. A lot of homesteaders are focused on doing it the traditional way, but I believe there is a good deal of money to be made from IoT and automation in farming and homesteading.
Clearly Microsoft making divestitures to get under the antitrust hurdle.
Also adamant against App Store!
Leads me to think you’ve not paid attention to ML space in the past decade.
