Small government is winning because big government is filled with crooks

I’ve worked with some exceptional code off of GitHub. But at work? Never
The emergence of groups like this is due to three reasons:
1. The internet
2. The misinformation, sensationalism, and emotional manipulation in the groups themselves
3. A massive gap/amount of disinformation in mainstream media/lexicon/knowledge base
People are massively overestimating number 2, and massively underestimating number three. The general populace is not as stupid as people and the media like to think, it’s blatantly clear that there’s more to what’s going on than is encapsulated in the current public narrative.
TPUs are more expensive per model train then regular GPUs? I thought the point was they were way faster, which makes up for the cost. Data scientists using gpus usually can do the math on costs...
That guy is a scam artist and I’m sad to see him referenced
This was a great message, why delete?
Bring it up at work and see how well that goes. Also I can’t really point to discussion on it, almost all of it is deleted on platforms like Reddit
This type of information is actively suppressed and speaking about is shamed
How come you might quit the industry?
It’s not high risk high reward, it’s high risk low reward
This is what no one wants to admit about functional programming
When I watched a world class software engineer build a real time data processing platform using only functional programming.
At a major company, over ten teams were automated in a year.
Beautiful and useful abstractions around data and data processing tasks that provided extreme value.
I could never replicate it, but it reminded me about the power of software and the extreme ability that some have to weird it.
You mean a neural network I could pull off github, and if I had enough money to train it, end up with the same results?
I think it is on topic. I’m tired of this company parading their “technical achievements” while simultaneously constraining humanities access to information
In nyc there’s less than 10,000 investing jobs.
You’re talking about a few thousand people a year
Are you aware of how few people get rich in the hedge fund industry? It’s not much more than people getting rich in Vegas and on lottery tickets
Yeah I stopped reading the economist a long time ago. Zero good information from them
The recruiter just reached out to my LinkedIn profile. My understanding is it’s really easy to get the interview
It’s been really stressful. I know python, but not really any other languages. I’m able to get work done. But I’m really nearly the same as a fresh grad. But really, I was just bumming around, then studied for four months and destroyed their algorithms questions, so much so that expectations for me are really high. But all I know is leetcode, literally nothing else...
I was working on a “startup”/kinda just unemployed for two years. I studied leetcode hard, and got hired into a 300k a year job at FAANG. I know nothing about testing, git, software process, roll outs, dev ops, etc. I barely know how to do software engineering. What an idiotic hiring process.
NLP is rapidly improving, a time may come when someone else can create good search just because nlp tech has gotten so good
Real ML and not just plug and play models takes a serious amount of knowledge
No, there’s more ambiguity in machine learning projects. When you develop a website, aside from the design, it works or it doesn’t. Whether some kind of ml product can work at all is often team dependent
It’s basically guaranteed at this point. And you don’t own the capital, you don’t start getting the massively appreciated grants until you are a few years in
Dumbstruck that we wouldn’t allow an adversarial country collect data on all of our citizens locations? And potentially more?
Funny that there’s two well known software companies that have disgruntled software developers. The title is believable for either
So your dreams didn’t pan out, but for others it has. There’s always value in shooting for more in life. You only live once
