You don't seem to understand the basic concepts of free speech, securities laws, or what Elon Musk is actually doing. Your question is irrelevant. Accusing me of being intentionally stupid isn't helping your argument.

We have a free market, multiple social platforms exist. Ones that moderate certain content lose certain users. You can chose what level of moderation you want as a customer and platforms can choose what level of moderation they want a business. Moderation technology as a service exists already.

Elon is trying to short-circuit the basic principles of free speech because he lied in a way c-suite executives and directors are not legally allowed to lie as it runs afoul of anti-fraud laws. You may not yell fire in a crowded theatre and you may not use free speech to commit fraud or when you are subject to disclosure laws you may not use free speech as a defense for breaking them.

When you are a corporate officer or director of publicly traded company you agree to following securities laws, specifically not making false statements that may impact stock prices.

Elon's antics got him a twitter-sitter and now he wants to own twitter in some sort of byzantine strategy to get around rules he agreed to (and their consequences necessitating a twitter-sitter) and have helped make him incredibly wealthy.

His arguments about open-sourcing algorithms and protecting free speech are not the actual reasons for his bid to take over twitter, he has simply amassed enough money to try to own a media outlet for the influence he could wield with it. He probably also thinks he can skirt SEC/Judicial rulings about his behavior on twitter if he owns it outright. At Elon's level of wealth, the only thing left to buy is more influence.

You don’t get to say whatever you want as the CEO of a publicly traded company without consequences — especially as it relates to stock prices and shareholder information.

As a long-time Musk fan, I find this unhealthy obsession with Twitter to really be the final straw. The man is unhinged and may be completely undermining all the good SpaceX and Tesla are capable of.

My AirPods don’t connect correctly about 20% of the time (at minimum) and switch connections for absolutely no reason to my Mac or iPhone despite those devices having no audio activity (in the middle of an active audio call on the active device, no less).

I turn off Bluetooth on the device I’m not using when I need to do a work call as a precaution.

Every headset I had before AirPods worked better than this.

You’re an engineer. And engineering programs will continue to use engineering focused tools. The goals of engineering program projects are vastly different than other areas of academia. Developing the tool is the project for engineering.

Bioscience / environmental science programs will find micropython good enough for their needs. The tool itself is just the means to the end if real science. Micropython let’s you deploy in lower power applications without having to learn much beyond what you already know from Jupyter notebooks.

I really don’t know any PhD students or post-docs in microbiology/environmental sciences who have the time to learn embedded C or similar languages.

These are mobile Ivybridge chips, they were not snappy, and as late as 2013 release dates for sub 50 GFLOPs.

ARM-based Chromebook's have already proven that Pi 4-comparable SoCs can do most basic computing needs for consumers.

The idea that essential computing needs can be met with a $100 Pi 400 and a $50 Screen is just kinda crazy.

That was on sale at Christmas.

That's the same price and performance as an M1 MacBook Air (slightly less actually under ideal circumstances).

It gets 75% the battery life of the M1 MacBook Air.

That has the same 2 year warranty in the EU.

It is currently not on sale for that price and is above 800 Euros -- Mac minis and MacBook Airs also go on sale for the same price.

I literally gave a link to a major Portuguese retailer in the contextual country with dozens of PCs listed. You gave a sale item in another country with a spec you prefer that has no bearing on the average consumer.

I've seen "claims" the ESP32 can do 0.1 mA in sleep, but haven't seen anyone actually implement that in a functional application.

My use case is different though, I will be adding an NRF9160 for connectivity so ESP32-based stuff just didn't make sense. It's also for academic customers who want to be able to work using MicroPython should I get hit by a bus.

I think you are really overestimating what is available to consumers for under $1000 Euro/USD.

256gb is pretty standard outside of gaming/workstation class desktops all over the world. The M1 is twice the CPU of everything in the sub $800 USD/Euro market. It's not even comparable. Spend $60/year on AppleCare+ and you get warranty well beyond 2 years in Spain/France/etc.

I haven't had a PC component break in less than 4-5 years on custom builds or OTS systems. My Macs have lasted 7-10 years of functional use.

I really don't get any of your arguments in this discussion. It's like you haven't actually use a Raspberry Pi in 3-4 years, and just want to knock Apple or ARM-based computers in general.

Between $100-$700 USD there are multiple cheap ARM-based computers available for any level of consumer use. You can use a reliable but cheap Raspberry Pi 400 if you are budget constrained. You will have to install DRM software, just like we did with DVD player software DRM in the 2000s to make Netflix work if you go that route.

If that doesn't work for the consumer they get a $700 Mac mini and it will have all out-of-the-box functionality a consumer needs, and outperform everything else they could find retail under $1000.

We haven't even talked about Chromebook's because there's dozens of ARM-based Chromebook's that have already overtaken cheap Intel PCs for these markets. This isn't even opinion over what platform is "better", the market has already spoken, and cheap ARM-based PCes as well as powerful ARM-based PCs are the norm.

That era of I3-i7 was 20-150 Gflops.

Given the Pi is a low-cost device, it's not terrible unreasonable to at least compare it to the 20-50 Gflop CPUs of that period.

But it's also not exactly fair as the HW Decode for video really makes them feel significantly faster in most process intensive workloads for general consumers, and USB3/eMMC/Micro SD cards are significantly faster than the IO used on iX-2000 to iX-4000 era computers (and later).

The Pi4 is almost modern desktop capable for office/admin work. You're at about 25% CPU utilization using HW accelerated 1080p video on a Pi4. Still a little slow, but desktop software and most web apps run as well on a 4gb or 8gb Pi4 as they do on a low-end PC.

HW accelerated Youtube already works out of the box on Raspberry Pi OS.

It is less complicated to setup a Raspberry Pi than install Windows 11.

Your average Walmart buyers don't even run antivirus, setup Google/Apply/Samsung Pay, install Microsoft Office, or know how to make a Windows 10/11 USB installer.

$200 Android phones are notorious for not actually working correctly in getting apps to run.

Doing 3 commands on Raspberry Pi OS to update the OS to the latest version and install a single program is not tinkering.

There's no configuration to edit/change. There's no credit card or account setup necessary to download the app. This is objectively easier than setting up a new android device.

Regardless, Mac minis go on sale for under $600 and provide probably the best consumer computing experience in the world for the least amount of money.

The guy saying he can't go into Best Buy and buy a consumer ARM machine has ignored the last 2 years.

Those are benefits in failed states and under despotic regimes. There's no real benefit in stable open-market systems.

Crypto benefits privileged people under bad regimes, the same ones who are necessary to actually overthrow despots.

It doesn't benefit, and will never benefit, the general populace who make less than $5 per day.
