Sure, after a hundred hours of playing, I came to the conclusion I had enough, I had seen everything that was to see in the game - even without completing it, never reached the center of the galaxy - but it sure was worth its price.

Adapt your working days ? I work a 9 to 5, but only 4 days a week - I'm off on wednesdays. I managed to live with my 80% pay. The benefit is I work 2 days, then I'm off, then 2 days of work again, then off again, and loop this... The weeks are never "too long", it's only a "2 days week": monday then immediately it's friday, twice a week ^^. It gave me a nice feeling of balance between work and private life (of course, working 3 days a week would feel even better, but I don't want to live with a 60% pay, it is a choice I had to make: I like my house, I like my car, my motorcycle, going on vacation, upgrading my gaming rig when needed, and so on).

Belgium - 13 years in the position, simple IT Tech: I have to give 13 weeks notice if I quit. I'm allowed to take a (paid) day off each of those week to look for a new job. If my employer fires me, he has a 42 weeks notice to give me, I'm of course also allowed to take the day off every week to look for a job.

I guess it is American-specific (I'm from Belgium, lived a year in California 25 years ago): sport is one out of hundreds of options you have to take to get a full schedule in school. Everyday is the same day, be it monday or wednesday. You get 5 hours of class - from 8am to 3pm - and they're the same everyday. I don't know where you're from, but in USA (at least where I lived a year), math, geography, biology, chemistry, physics, sport, choir,...all are options. There are only a few mandatory classes: english (obvious), economics, and I forgot the last one I had. The other hours, you go to the class you chose. So, if you're not into academics or art, you choose some sport and it takes almost half of your school schedule. And you get the same high school diploma than someone who took math and chemistry. That's how athletics becomes so important in their schools, but arts can be too, or any subject. In Belgium, our school system went for the "a brain discovers a lot of subjects" teaching style, in US it's more "a brain (or a body) nicely trained on one subject".

Pharmaceutical laboratory here: my colleagues, lab technicians, almost all have a scientific calculator on their desk and they use it quite often. The reason is they know exactly how to use it and when they're filling their paper lab notebook, it's in easy reach and faster than put the notebook away, unlock the computer, learn how to use the computer, then get back to the notebook and write the result.

I live in Belgium, didn't inherit millions from family and am in the middle working class. I'll stay in this working class, this is how it has been conceived, I'll never make millions. Once I understood and accepted this, I managed to work only 4 days a week and live more than finely with this salary. Work is only there to get my living wage, I detached completely from work life, I chat with colleague, I do what I'm supposed to do, nothing less, nothing more, I play cards and read a lot, then my 7h50 workday is over and I go on with my real life: my son, my car, my hobbies, my friends. THIS is what counts.

My 8 y.o. wanted to be a youtuber/gamer... So, I'm learning how to use OBS and Shotcut, and we've started his channel. A race of quadricyle in my town (in Belgium) :)

I put up a team with friends to compete in that race and we were drinking special beers during the relays. The team next to us was cooking a barbecue and saw our beers: we traded sausages for beers... I was unemployed at the time, and through a happy discussion with that other team, I was offered a job by one of their member who had a computer shop and needed a technician.

VR Games - After years of DOS, then windows 9x, XP, 7, I switched to Xubuntu in 2012. The first 2 years were made of learning and experiencing, then I worked and played with my computer without ever thinking of switching back to Microsoft. I switched my whole family, dad, sisters, uncle and so on, on Xubuntu over the years, everyone is happy with it, it just works for them. ...Then came the Quest 2 in my cousin's home. I tried it. I wanted it. I bought it. ...And I reinstalled Windows on my main computer.

China also got floods 2 days ago. (Hi from Hotton ! ...with dry feet now)

Car: fully paid, but still 1500 €/year for insurance, 500 €/year in taxes and ~2500 €/year for gas. But I love it, it's a necessity to go to work, but also a pleasure to drive.

I can speak for Oculus Quest 2, plugged with a cable in the computer: it doesn't work at all. SteamVR works by itself in native linux mode, but for the Quest 2 to be recognized, you need to run an Oculus windows only application that makes it look like it is a Rift headset... So... after years on Xubuntu only, I ended up reinstalling Windows to satisfy my new VR gaming "needs"...

Not OP, and I've never used KDE. But I used Gnome 2, when it was the default DE for Ubuntu. Then Ubuntu switched to that DE-which-I-cant-recall-the-name, with the sidebar and what appeared to me to be a strange desktop which made me lose some reflexes. So I switched over to Xubuntu and it made me feel more at home, it was a desktop as simple as I could ever hope, in fact, its logic was (for me) intuitive. I never felt the need to customise it beyond its defaults: it just worked. It's been ~8 years now, and I never looked back. So, to answer your question: the main advantage is that it looks and works like a known paradigm for someone coming from Gnome2 or Windows 9x/Me/2000/XP.

I think it's time you decide if your work defines you or of it's just a way to get the money that allows you to live and to do (almost) anything you want outside your work. It's time to decide if you want to take risk and live how you want to, or to keep some security and be happy with a side-project.

Depending if you have kids/wife, your "choice" will be easier.

Don't know for Portugal, but in Belgium "underperforming" is also an economic reason, you get the social security protection. Misconduct on the other hand gets you suspended from govt protection for some times.
