This is absolutely sad and pathetic.

I agree. It is a quick reminder that if another person would have had access to it, that it could have been quite different. Potentially malicious.

It would be nice to know the future in most cases.

This happens to me all the time as well. As a "quick to anger" person this is the WORST thing you can do (un)intentionally!
