I use croissant to cross post on social media accounts but I never use the services themselves to read any content. I’m screaming into the void and I’m fine with it.
Sure, in the same way SaaS companies are just thin wrappers on top of databases and the open web.
Don’t give Elon any ideas
I use ChatGPT (4) to generate a lot of unit tests. The prompt is usually no more complicated than “Write comprehensive unit tests using <insert testing framework here> for this” and then I paste in the class/function to test
Nearly 20 years ago I was out to dinner with my girlfriend and who is sitting at the table next to us other than Kurt Vonnegut. He took a liking to my companion and basically pulled our table over to his as we listened to him regale us with stories. The man lived.
I can't say if he was universally nice, but on that night he was nice, charming, and a pleasure to eat dinner with.
Fought with getting a nice workflow with the cli that supports MFA. I got it working and wrote it up here. https://www.nicks.io/simplifying-using-the-aws-cli-with-mfa/
Exactly the opposite actually.

I know of a large printer company who approached a large media company with a deal that would have had the large media company change the color of the text on their printer friendly pages to something near black but requiring the color cartridge instead of true black. As I recall they were willing to pay seven figures annually. The media company did not take them up on their offer.
The underhandedness/cleverness of the printer companies is not to be underestimated.
$400k adjusted for 1954 dollars would be $3.6M.
Because the advertiser wants to track how many times the ad was seen, etc. Ad Servers / 3rd Parties provide the function of being an independent third party.
It's used pretty extensively at Adobe.

Narrative IO | Software Engineer / Employee #2 | NYC | Full-time | On Site
The following job is for employee number two at an obviously very early stage startup. Please reach out to me (founder) directly. I'm happy to answer questions and go a little deeper than makes sense in a job post. My last two companies, where I was on the management team but not a founder, have had successful exits.

At Narrative we believe that data are incredibly valuable assets for modern businesses. Unfortunately not every business have the data they need. Conversely many companies have large data sets that they are aren't getting the full potential value out of. To help solve this problem, Narrative is building an unstructured data marketplace that will enable the efficient discovery, pricing, transaction, and delivery of data between companies. We are looking for people to join us to achieve this goal.
This is the first full-time hire at the company and the role would be employee #2 after the founder. As such this person needs to to be willing to walk into a situation with a lot of big challenges as well as uncountable unknowns.
An early version of our backend infrastructure is already in production, but we're looking to quickly expand the feature set while maintaining a highly reliable and scalable platform. Where are we today?
Today's data collection platform is built on top of Amazon Web Services. All backend code is written in Scala using open source technologies like Jetty, Apache Thrift, Kafka, and ZooKeeper.
What is next?
While we think this is a good start there are already some pressing architectural needs that need to be addressed to make the platform truly scalable. These include the design and implementation of our next generation core infrastructure, migration of data from our legacy systems, and building out our data analytics framework. We're also actively on boarding new customers who will have a variety of new data types and requirements on how they will be traded.
I'm assuming that the role is related to software development so this post may not be relevant but as someone who worked at Adobe for a couple of years it really resonates for me.

I can totally relate and to this day I describe one of my greatest failures as a manager as analogous to how "easy" math was to me. Until Calc II I really found nothing about math challenging at all. The result of this was that everyone wanted me to tutor them in math. The problem was that I didn't solve math problems like other people did, in fact I had no idea how I did what I did. I just did it. As a result when I tried to teach someone else it was an unmitigated disaster.
Fast forward to the real world, one of my biggest challenges is helping people figure out how to get from A-Z. A is obvious to me. Z is obvious to me (although I'm probably wrong as much as I'm right), but getting someone to understand my reasoning is almost impossible.
By poisoning the advertiser/publisher relationship they are also poisoning the publisher/user relationship. Like it or not publishers have to pay the bills and these types of efforts are either going to result in paywalls (which users of this plugin will no doubt try to circumvent) or by the content going away all together.
I think a much better option for those opposed to advertising is to just not visit those publishers. Anything other than that strikes me as theft of service.
