If LLMs are an AGI dead end then this has all been the greatest scam in history.

These companies seem to think AGI will come from better LLMs, seems more like an AGI dead end that's plateaued to me.

They (AI Corp. Execs) seem to think LLMs will be central to AGI. They are the experts I guess, but I have my doubts.

I used to think crypto was a ponzi scheme, but now I think it's more of a huge boon criminal enterprises in general. There should be conspiracy theories about the Russian or North Korean origins of Satoshi Nakamoto.

I think it's a cool achievement, but for some perspective NASA first did a vertical rocket ship landing without chopsticks decades ago.

And the whole point of this thing was to do that on the moon, which is never going to happen at this rate.

Really? Aren't gore videos legal? That's just one example.

Also, can we get some common sense here? You're posting on hacker news. You're allowed to post a very narrow set of things here. There are no shitposts and memes, that's half the content of the internet being censored on this platform. Are you not outraged?

We've run the 4-minute mile.

We are in for radical non-linear change.

We aren't running miles much quicker than 4 mins though. The last record was 3m:43s set by Hicham El Guerrouj in 1999.

Republicans have been calling their "enemies" communists for years, the actual politicians that the people elected. Democrat politicians don't generally behave like that, but if there ever were a time this would be it.

It hardly needs to be violently racist or whatever conception you have in your mind to be fascist propaganda. Rather the opposite if you take a minute to consider what makes for effective propaganda.

My dad uses it to get fascist/right-wing propaganda for about 4 hours every night. All nicely monetized for any grifter willing to debase themselves for a potential fortune. Truly novel, but not well thought through or done with any care at all besides profits which is par for the course in silicon valley.

For niche spraying where you can't get to the ground I'd rather see a robot on little slits or something. If you can get to the ground, well, those chemicals are heavy and drones run on pretty terrible batteries.

These tractors can cost up to half a million dollars to purchase and about US $7 a hectare to operate.

A pair of Hylio’s drones cost a fifth of that, Erickson says, and operating them costs about a quarter of the price.

About zero farmers are buying a tractor solely for spraying crops, but honestly if you have the money for a new tractor, knock yourself out with a stupid drone, why not?

In like 15 mins I learned that Perin had a child that he named Farmir and that Aragorn (II) is a descendant of Elrond's twin brother who were both just half-elves themselves as their parents were both half-elven. And between Elrond and Aragorn there's like 60 generations of men.

Never really been interested in LotR lore, but I've read them multiple times and seen the movies many more times. Never seemed worth the times and sounded like dry work compared to the novels, but yeah this is pretty cool!
