America run by Steve Jobs would be kind of dystopic, I'd say.

Didn't know that. At least in Turkey, pretty much every iphone is jailbroken, including those owned by regular, non-power users. Actually, the only non-jailbroken iPhone i've seen in Turkey belonged to an exchange student in our school, from US.

First of all, ActiveRecord is not a GoF pattern and its intent is not trying to implement the lacking dynamic features in static languages. Thus, it's not trivial or a source of unneeded complexity in ruby. And so is MVC(Actually, MVC is quite different from the other "Design Patterns" as it covers the entire architecture of the system instead of just a part of it).

The point is, most GoF patterns(like factory, builder, strategy, facade etc.) are trivial in "dynamic" languages like ruby and lisp and strictly applying those static-language-origin patterns cause nothing but unneeded complexity in ruby.

Searching bookmarks are available by default in vimperator. You can easily create a yubnub command and assign a hotkey for it, i think. And since vimperator can execute any javascript code from its command line, you can execute bookmarklets.

Customizability is a "tie" between ie, firefox and chrome? chrome(current stable version) is one of the least customizable browsers i've ever seen!
